  3. Photo Credit: Independent Film Company (IFC) / Shudder Good Boy director Ben Leonberg spoke about the ending of the horror movie and whether the dog dies. Good Boy opens in theaters in the United States on Friday, October 3, 2025. Recently, fans have also flooded the internet to learn about the dog’s fate in the film. Ben Leonberg confirms if the dog dies in Good Boy’s ending Director Ben Leonberg recently sat down for a chat with Cinemablend, where he shared whether Indy the dog dies in his movie Good Boy. Since the trailer for Good Boy came out, the top question on the internet has been whether the dog dies. However, Leonberg confirmed that the pup survives in the end. He compared Indy to Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible movies, without sharing any spoilers from Good Boy. He said, “It’s probably not so different from what I think people know when they go and see a Mission: Impossible movie. Tom Cruise isn’t gonna die, but the filmmaking still has to let you think he might fall off that airplane and die potentially for real when you’re watching Mission: Impossible. So, it’s a different way to solve a kind of similar problem.” Leonberg added, “Usually, that dog in horror movies doesn’t make it out of Act 1. This is obviously in a film entirely about Indy, so we’re expanding that story quite a bit.” Furthermore, Leonberg disclosed his feelings regarding the viewers’ reaction to the trailer and their curiosity regarding the dog. He stated that everyone was “surprised” with the reaction. “It’s all been delightful. We certainly think our dog is really compelling. It’s been delightful to see that people are this invested in Indy, his story, and outcome.” Good Boy’s cast features Arielle Friedman, Larry Fessenden, Anya Krawcheck, and more. 4. Photo Credit: Apple TV Plus The release date of Platonic Season 3 has become a major topic of discussion among fans of the comedy series. Anticipation for a new installment reached an all-time high following the second season’s conclusion. Created by Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, the narrative follows Sylvia and Will, two former best friends who reconnect after being estranged for a long time. The pair soon discovers that their rekindled friendship brings about a plethora of changes in their stable lives. So, what is Platonic Season 3’s release date estimate? Here’s what you need to know. What is the Platonic Season 3 release date estimate? The Platonic Season 3 release date estimate is 2027. This is based on past release patterns. Season 1 premiered in 2023, followed by Season 2 in 2025. Thus, if Season 3 followed a similar pattern, then its aforementioned 2027 release year becomes all the more likely. It should be noted that a third installment has neither been renewed nor canceled, as of writing. It’s possible that the series creators have only started analyzing the second season’s viewership and ratings, a key factor determining series renewal. Thus, fans can expect Season 3 news to arrive once the creators have decided what to do with the series moving forward. Platonic news and updates As of this writing, there’s no official news or credible reports concerning Season 3. However, two months ago, at the Los Angeles premiere of Platonic Season 2, Rogen and Byrne, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, discussed including Zac Efron in a future season to complete the Neighbors reunion. For the unversed, Rogen, Byrne, and Efron starred together in the Neighbors comedy film series (2014-16). The films were directed by Platonic co-creator Nicholas Stoller. In the interview, Byrne didn’t understand why Efron hadn’t shown up yet, noting his inclusion was something the creators needed to focus on next. Meanwhile, Rogen remarked that Efron’s inclusion would be “amazing stunt casting” and “so funny.” The Platonic Season 3 cast could include Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Luke Macfarlane, Carla Gallo, Tre Hale, and Andrew Lopez, among others. The synopsis for Platonic is as follows: “A platonic pair of former best friends approaching midlife reconnect after a long rift. The duo’s friendship becomes more consuming—and destabilizes their lives in a hilarious way.” The post Platonic Season 3 Release Date Estimate, News & Updates appeared first on ComingSoon.net - Movie Trailers, TV & Streaming News, and More. 5. Photo Credit: Apple TV+ A new update has hinted at potential release date windows for Slow Horses Season 6 and Season 7. Gary Oldman confirmed the next chapter will begin filming after the sixth season wraps. The announcement drew attention as the Apple TV+ spy drama continues adapting Mick Herron’s Slough House novels. Slow Horses Season 6 and 7 likely to get 2026 and 2027 release dates, respectively Gary Oldman confirmed in an interview with ScreenRant that filming for Season 7 will begin at the end of October. This follows shortly after production wrapped on Season 6. The production timeline suggests Season 6 could come out in 2026 and Season 7 in 2027. The British spy drama premiered on Apple TV+ in April 2022. It adapts Mick Herron’s Slough House novels, with each season based on a single book. The show follows a team of sidelined MI5 agents, with Oldman portraying Jackson Lamb. Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Sophie Okonedo, Jonathan Pryce, Hugo Weaving, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, and Aimee-Ffion Edwards are also part of the cast. Will Smith created the series and planned it as a long-running project. However, he will exit the show post-Season 5. But it seems the creative team structured its roadmap well in advance. Oldman told Screen Rant, “This was Will’s last show, Season 5, and we had a whole new team come in. We’ve already shot Season 6, it’s in the can, and at the end of October, we start Season 7, and that’s a new team.” His remarks indicate that filming continues at a steady pace. Notably, Apple TV+ renewed the series through at least its seventh season in July 2025. Apple seems to be filming back-to-back seasons while earlier ones are still airing. While this approach is not very common among streaming services, it reflects the production model chosen for Slow Horses, which uses Herron’s novels as ready-made story blueprints. Season 5 is currently airing, with the following seasons already in advanced stages of completion. Given the filming schedule, Seasons 6 and 7 are likely to target release windows in 2026 and 2027, respectively. The series has steadily built a reputation as one of Apple TV+’s most acclaimed original dramas since its debut. 6. Photo Credit: Adrian S Burrows Sr/NBC via Getty Images When Chicago Fire kicked off Season 14, viewers quickly picked up on a major hint that after seven seasons, Daniel Kyri is saying goodbye to his role as Darren Ritter. However, it won’t be an immediate exit. Ritter will still appear in Season 14, just for a shorter run, before officially leaving the show for good. Is Daniel Kyri’s Darren Ritter leaving Chicago Fire in Season 14? Kyri confirmed in an Instagram post in August 2025 that he’s filmed his final scenes. He also clarified that his character, Darren Ritter, is leaving Chicago Fire. In the post, Kyri writes, “Yesterday, I filmed my last scenes as Ritter & I’m still so amazed that my first-ever TV gig—a role that was originally meant for just three episodes—turned into seven incredible years (SEVEN?!?!! Whatttt???!) and spanned eight seasons of this iconic show!” Kyri continues. “While I know I may never find another cast and crew as amazing as this one, I intend to carry what I’ve learned from you to every set in the future.” Originally, Ritter’s exit was tied to budget cuts, and the long-running show chose not to renew his contract heading out of Season 13. However, rather than vanish off-screen, Ritter was brought back for a couple of episodes in Season 14 so his character could receive a proper send-off. The Season 14 opener gives us clues about Ritter’s departure. We find Ritter still at Firehouse 51, getting back with his ex, Dwayne. The latter was transferred out of Chicago and joined the NYPD. Later, Dwayne is shot in the line of duty and is hospitalized in New York. Ritter gets on a plane to be by his side. This is how the show sets up Ritter’s exit: moving to New York to be with his boyfriend. While leaving the show is bittersweet for Kyri, he praised the Chicago Fire cast. He claimed he may never work with a group as incredible as this one. He added that he’ll carry everything he’s learned from them into future opportunities. Kyri also thanked the Wolf Entertainment team for recognizing his talent. 7. Photo Credit: @IFCFilmsUnlimited | YouTube Viewers who are walking into cinemas for Good Boy this weekend are wondering if there are mid- and post-credit scenes in the movie. While it may be unconventional for an animal-centric movie to have credit scenes, this being a horror movie holds a reason for the audience to stay back as the credits roll. How many post-credits scenes does Good Boy have? Ben Leonberg’s directorial debut, Good Boy, has two additional scenes after the movie ends. So, viewers can stick around to catch both. There is a short one during the credits and another after they’ve ended. While these scenes are not an attempt at hinting at a sequel, they do offer some interesting insights into the movie. What happens in Good Boy’s mid- and post-credits scenes? The mid-credits scene shows Indy, looking out of a car window as it drives away from the eerie woods. After a thrilling and chaotic adventure, this scene offers some much-needed levity. The post-credits scene takes a lighter tone, offering a behind-the-scenes look at how the film was made. Leonberg shares fun anecdotes about how he got Indy, his own pet, to star in the movie. Released on October 3, 2025, Good Boy is a supernatural horror film that features Indy, who also goes by the same name in the movie. The story centers around Indy and tells the story exclusively from its perspective. Indy’s owner, Todd, who suffers from a chronic lung disease, moves from New York into his late grandfather’s house. Todd’s sister, Vera, worries about his isolation and believes the house is haunted, which could’ve also contributed to their grandfather’s death. As his health worsens, Indy begins to sense a dark, mysterious presence in the house. It tries to protect Todd by investigating the strange occurrences and encounters. However, it also brought up exit rumors when Ice-T’s Fin did not appear throughout the episode. Let’s dive into the details of why Ice-T’s Fin was missing from Law & Order: SVU Season 27 Episode 2. Has he left the show? Why was Ice-T’s Fin missing from Law & Order: SVU Season 27 Episode 2? Fin continues to be one of the most beloved characters on Law & Order: SVU, and his failure to appear in any episode never goes unnoticed. In fact, his absence in episode 2 sparked rumors of his exit from the show. However, Sergeant Fin Tutuola is not leaving the show. During Episode 1 of Season 27, Fin lands in the hospital after being set up and getting brutally beaten by two robbers. Hence, he most likely did not appear in Episode 2 because he is still recovering from his injuries. Ice-T confirmed his return in Episode 3 ahead of the Season 27 premiere of Law & Order: SVU. He told People, “In the first episode, something bad happens to me and I end up in the hospital. I wasn’t in the second episode, but I’m back in the third—they move us around.” So while Sergeant Fin recovers from his injuries, fans cannot wait to see him back in action. During Episode 1, two robbers steal Fin’s service weapon when he tries to stop an assault in progress, which turns out to be a set-up. Ice-T’s Fin has been a part of the show since Season 2, and he does not seem to be retiring anytime soon. In March 2025, he addressed retirement rumors in an Instagram post captioned, “RETIRE??? 13. http://blogs.fangraphs.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Cam-Schlittler-ALWCG3.jpgVincent Carchietta-Imagn Images NEW YORK — In just the second winner-take-all postseason matchup started by two rookies — in one of the sport’s most storied rivalries, no less — 24-year-old Yankees righty Cam Schlittler utterly dominated the Red Sox lineup on Thursday, striking out 12 without a walk while scattering just five hits over eight scoreless innings. His opposite number, 23-year-old lefty Connelly Early, matched Schlittler zero for zero through the first three frames, making up with deception what he lacked in velocity, at least relative to the New York starter. Alas, a mistake by the Red Sox defense opened the door to trouble in the fourth inning, as five of the first six Yankees reached base en route to a 4-0 lead. Boston manager Alex Cora, who pulled starter Brayan Bello after 28 pitches in Game 2, left Early to throw 33 pitches in the fourth inning alone. That outburst was more than enough, as the Yankees eliminated the Red Sox from the postseason for the first time since 2003, when current manager Aaron Boone hit a walk-off home run off Tim Wakefield. This was the sixth time the two AL East rivals squared off in the postseason, with the Red Sox riding a series winning streak that included the 2004 American League Championship Series, the 2018 AL Division Series, and the 2021 AL Wild Card Game. The only other time two rookie starters met in a winner-take-all game was in Game 7 of the 2020 NLCS, when the Dodgers’ Dustin May and the Braves’ Ian Anderson went head to head, though May pitched just one inning and Anderson three, and neither figured in the decision. The two starters in this one began the season in Double-A, and didn’t figure to contribute substantially this season. Schlittler joined a banged-up Yankees rotation on July 9 and pitched brilliantly during the second half, overpowering batters with a four-seam fastball that averaged 98.0 mph as well as an effective cutter. He posted a 2.96 ERA and 3.74 FIP with a 27.6% strikeout rate in 14 starts, and was an easy choice for Boone to start Game 3 following Max Fried and Carlos Rodón. By contrast, Early only debuted on September 9, and pitched brilliantly (2.33 ERA, 0.91 FIP) but might not have made the postseason roster — or at least would not have started — had Lucas Giolito not been sidelined by elbow trouble. While Garrett Crochet’s 7 2/3 innings in Game 1 required Cora to use only closer Aroldis Chapman in relief, the manager didn’t like what he saw from Bello in Game 2 and pulled him with one out in the third, leaving him to call upon six relievers, one of whom (Garrett Whitlock) threw a season-high 47 pitches and gave up the winning run. On Thursday, Early looked very good… early. He needed just eight pitches to work through a clean first inning, stranded Giancarlo Stanton after a 114.5-mph leadoff double in the second, and struck out five of the 11 hitters he faced through three innings, with five whiffs and a 37.8% CSW (called strike and whiff rate). That said, while he did a good job of mixing in six different pitches — a four-seamer that averaged 94.1 mph, plus a sinker, sweeper, changeup, curve, and slider — the Yankees did make him work harder after the first; he threw 23 pitches in the second inning and 14 in the third. Early’s troubles began when Cody Bellinger, leading off the fourth, blooped a shallow fly ball into right center, where center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela and right fielder Wilyer Abreu — each among the best at his respective position by the metrics this year — both converged along with second baseman Romy Gonzalez. The ball glanced off the webbing of Rafaela’s glove, and by the time Gonzalez recovered to throw to second, Bellinger was safe. Stanton then worked a seven-pitch walk, prompting a visit from pitching coach Andrew Bailey. Early struck out Ben Rice swinging at a sweeper on the lower outside black, but Amed Rosario, drawing a start against a lefty for the second time in the series, hit a 108.2-mph sizzler just to the right of a diving Trevor Story, and Bellinger beat the throw home, giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead. Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Anthony Volpe followed with singles off 94-ish fastballs in the upper third of the strike zone, the latter bringing home Stanton. By this point, righty Justin Slaten was warming up, but Cora stuck with his starter. Eight pitches into Austin Wells’ at-bat, he swung and appeared to make contact with the glove of catcher Carlos Narváez. Home plate umpire Mark Ripperger ruled catchers interference, apparently forcing in a run, but the call was overturned upon review. With a full count, Wells — who drove in the game-winning run on Wednesday night — hit a 100.3-mph smash toward first base. The ball deflected off Nathaniel Lowe’s glove and eluded Gonzalez, with both Rosario and Chisholm scoring. The play was ruled an error, and it gave the Yankees a 4-0 lead. Early stayed in to retire lefty Trent Grisham on a fly ball, then Slaten replaced him and induced Aaron Judge to ground out. Cora refused to hang the blame on his rookie starter. “We didn’t play defense. The popup drops, there’s a double, and there’s a walk, and they didn’t hit the ball hard, but they found holes. It just happened fast,” said the manager. Regarding Early, he added, “The kid did a good job. He threw the ball well, induced them to weak contact, but it didn’t happen for us tonight… just a few balls that went by, right? The Rosario and Volpe [balls], but he made pitches. And he didn’t get rattled.” By the numbers, Cora overstated the case for Early, as the Yankees averaged a 94.7-mph exit velocity on the 12 balls they put into play against him, five of which were hard-hit — four of the six hits he allowed plus the Wells grounder. Still, that was secondary to the job Schlittler did of carving up the Red Sox. “We needed to be perfect tonight, because he was perfect,” said Cora. “The stuff is outstanding. He was under control. That was electric.” Indeed. Schlittler came out of the gate throwing absolute gas. His first two pitches to leadoff hitter Jarren Duran produced swinging strikes on 98.7- and 99.7-mph four-seam fastballs on the inner third of the plate. Duran fouled off his third, a 100.5-mph sinker, and took his fourth, a high 100.5-mph four-seamer, for a ball. He lined out to Chisholm on Schlittler’s sixth pitch, then Story popped out to Rice, and Alex Bregman struck out looking at a high 100.1-mph fastball after Rice dropped a foul popup. Of Schlittler’s 14 first-inning pitches, six were 100 mph or higher and 10 were 98.7 or higher. http://blogs.fangraphs.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/holyschlittler.png Schlittler apparently had a bit of extra motivation. A native of Walpole, Massachusetts, he pitched for Boston-based Northeastern University, and was chosen in the seventh round of the 2022 draft, one pick after the Red Sox drafted Caleb Bolden, who put up a 5.78 ERA at Double-A Portland this year. “It was personal for me,” said Schlittler during the celebration in the Yankees clubhouse. “People from Boston had a lot to say before the game, I didn’t like some of the things they were saying today… There was a line, and I think they crossed it a little bit. I’m a competitor. I’m going to go out there and make sure I shut them down. “Boston fans, that’s just how it is,” he continued. “We’re aggressive back home, and we’re going to try and get under people’s skin. They just picked the wrong guy to do it to. It’s the wrong team to do it to, as well.” Though he struck out both Rafaela (foul tip on a 98.8-mph sinker) and Lowe (looking at a 100.7-mph sinker) following a leadoff single by Masataka Yoshida to start the second, Schlittler threw 23 pitches in the inning, but he grew more efficient, needing just 12 pitches to complete the third (which featured strikeouts of Gonzalez and Duran) and 10 to complete the fourth, working around a two-out single by Yoshida. Staked to the lead, he labored for 20 pitches in the fifth, the only time the Red Sox put two men on base at the same time or got a runner to second; Lowe singled, and after strikeouts of Narváez and Abreu, Gonzalez singled as well, but Duran went down on just three pitches, the last of them a checked swing on a 99.9-mph four-seamer that was off the plate inside. After that, the real question was how long Boone would stick with Schlittler. Fernando Cruz, who pitched in Games 1 and 2, was warming up in both the sixth and seventh, and Devin Williams in the eighth, but Schlittler just kept pounding the strike zone, with Story’s single to lead off the sixth the only baserunner he allowed over his final three innings. “I didn’t even want to talk to him much,” said Boone. “I just wanted to say, You good? Usually I will come down the steps if I am going to have a conversation or take him out. I kind of stood on the steps and just gave him my, ‘Are you good? [look].’ He was.” Schlittler ended up throwing 107 pitches (a professional career high), 75 for strikes, including 21 called strikes and 18 whiffs (36.4% CSW). Eleven of those whiffs were with the four-seamer (which averaged 98.9 mph, 0.9 above his season average), five on the sinker (which averaged 99 mph, 1.5 mph above his season average), and two via the cutter. The Red Sox averaged an exit velocity of just 84.3 mph on the 17 balls they put into play against him, only five of which were hard-hit balls of 95 mph or higher. Schlittler had never pitched eight innings in a professional game. “In the minors, they are really good about managing workload, and you kind of hover around that 95-pitch mark,” he said. His longest major league outing by innings was his seven-inning start against the Orioles last Saturday, while his highest pitch count was 100 (in six-plus innings) against the White Sox on August 30. “I thought I was done after the seventh,” he said. “So for [Boone] to give me the confidence to go back there and get out the eighth was a great feeling.” Schlittler actually made some history. For the series, Yankees starters combined to allow just three runs in 20 1/3 innings, helping to paper over a suspect bullpen that put up a 4.74 ERA from August 1 on, after general manager Brian Cashman traded for closer David Bednar (who worked around a leadoff walk of Bregman in a scoreless ninth, in his third appearance in as many nights), and righties Camilo Doval and Jake Bird. The Yankees became the first out of 16 teams to win a best-of-three Wild Card Series after losing the first game since the 12-team format was put into place in 2022. 14. Photo Credit: Showtime Networks Halo has surged back into the spotlight after its move to Netflix, where the sci-fi series quickly climbed into the platform’s Top 10 rankings. The development follows its cancellation on Paramount+ after two seasons, signaling a renewed wave of attention for the video game adaptation. Halo fans ask for Season 3 after the show’s successful debut on Netflix Halo, the live-action series based on the eponymous acclaimed video game franchise, has gained fresh momentum since arriving on Netflix, with fans demanding Season 3. Originally released on Paramount+ between 2022 and 2024, the show was cancelled after its second season. Halo has now climbed to Number 4 on Netflix’s Top 10 list, reflecting a surge of renewed viewer interest. (via ScreenRant) Fans have taken to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to campaign for a continuation. One user wrote, “@netflix Halo! Can’t believe Paramount canceled this series right when it’s getting SO GOOD! NETFLIX Save this show and charge me whatever u want. Season 2 finale is unbelievable! Halo Seson 3!” Another viewer added, “@netflix please do season 3. But have the team retcon the last episode of se 2 so they never made it to the halo. The blue balls of it all was way funnier.” The Halo franchise centers on Master Chief, a Spartan supersoldier in the 26th century, fighting against the alien Covenant. While Paramount’s version drew controversy for major deviations from the games, critics largely reviewed the show positively. Notable elements included a divisive storyline choice involving Master Chief, which polarized longtime fans. Despite mixed reception on its original platform, Halo’s new streaming presence has significantly boosted its visibility. Netflix’s broader audience reach has given the series a second life, positioning it alongside other top-ranked shows on the service. Season 2’s stronger critical response compared to Season 1 and the ongoing fan campaigns highlight a continued appetite for the adaptation. No official confirmation has been given regarding Season 3. Still, Halo’s rapid climb on Netflix’s charts and the strong reaction from audiences demonstrate how cancelled shows can find new life on larger platforms, leading to renewed demands for continuation. 16. Miami has struggled to find a viable option behind the plate since trading away J.T. Realmuto ahead of the 2019 season. After Jorge Alfaro, who returned in the Realmuto deal, failed to provide consistent results, the Marlins have shuffled through a mix of veterans and fringe MLBers over the past few seasons. Miami backstops finished 29th in OPS at the position in both 2023 and 2024. Agustin Ramirez seems like the answer, at least on offense. Acquired in the Jazz Chisholm Jr. trade, the top prospect popped 21 homers and stole 16 bases in his first taste of MLB action. Ramirez paced the team in doubles and total bases. He was a fixture in the heart of the lineup since getting promoted in late April. The problem with Ramirez as Miami’s solution at catcher was the catching part. He led the league with 19 passed balls, more than twice as many as the next-closest player (Shea Langeliers at nine). Ramirez also led all catchers with 10 errors, despite only making 71 starts at the position. The throwing aspect of the job didn’t go much better. Ramirez allowed 83 steals and threw out just 8 base runners, good for a paltry 8.8% caught stealing rate. He ranked dead last in Statcast’s CS Above Average metric, which compares the number of extra caught stealings to the expectation of an average catcher. Ramirez made 61 starts at DH in his rookie season. While that may be his ultimate home, president of baseball operations Peter Bendix hasn’t given up on Ramirez in the field. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Bendix said Ramirez still has “the ability to be a major league catcher and also needs to improve a lot to be able to consistently achieve that level” (link via Kevin Barral of Fish on First). It isn’t the strongest endorsement, but it’s enough to keep the door ajar on Ramirez’s future at the position. Liam Hicks functioned as Miami’s backup catcher for the majority of the 2025 season. He started 49 games behind the plate, while also making 23 starts at first base and 20 at DH. Hicks joined the team as a Rule 5 selection from Detroit. He posted a solid 98 wRC+ across 390 plate appearances, though the power was lacking. Hicks hit just a half dozen home runs and finished with a .099 ISO. He doesn’t have the type of thump typically associated with 1B/DH types, so sticking at catcher might be his only avenue to consistent playing time. The main issue with Hicks as a long-term option is the same one that plagues Ramirez. Hicks allowed 51 stolen bases last season, while catching just six would-be thieves. He had the fifth-worst mark in Statcast’s CS Above Average metric. The real answer at catcher might be waiting in the wings at Triple-A. Joe Mack is the organization’s fourth-ranked prospect according to MLB.com. FanGraphs ranked Mack third among Miami prospects in their midseason update. Mack was a first-round pick in 2021. He’s put up strong offensive numbers at each minor league stop, including a 129 wRC+ in 112 games at Double-A in 2024. Mack torched Double-A pitching once again to begin 2025 and was quickly bumped to Triple-A. He hit 18 home runs with a solid .250/.320/.459 slash line in 412 plate appearances with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. The 22-year-old has an elite arm, which will provide some much-needed help in slowing down the run game. Mack has a shot to break camp with the team in 2026 after hitting .298/.382/.766 with six homers in 14 games in September. Whether or not Mack is with the big-league club next season, the team could use a glove-first veteran option. Victor Caratini, Austin Hedges, and James McCann would be viable options that shouldn’t be overly expensive. Old friend Jacob Stallings could also be a candidate to soak up innings behind the plate for a low investment. Ironically, Nick Fortes would’ve fit the bill as a veteran caddy to Mack. Fortes led the Marlins in starts behind the plate in 2023 and 2024, but was shipped out at the trade deadline this past season. View the full article
  17. Photo by Christine Bartolucci | Disney via Getty Images Fans of General Hospital have lately been wondering whether Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) and Ava Jerome (Maura West) are really over for good. Now, Hearst is weighing in on where he thinks the relationship stands and whether this is truly the end. Rick Hearst on whether Ric & Ava can get back together on General Hospital Ric and Ava’s romance took off when he served as her attorney, and what started as flirtation grew into a full-fledged affair. By teaming up to blackmail Alexis and indulging in schemes together, the duo seemed well-matched in cunning and ambition. Yet cracks began to show almost immediately. Most recently, Ava, Alexis, and Kristina impulsively held Ric hostage in Alexis’s basement — with Ava knocking him unconscious in the process. “This is going to sound really screwball, but I really hope this isn’t the end for the two of them,” Ric Hearst told Soap Opera Digest. “I feel like Ava and Ric were just getting started! … But this is a soap, right? Anything can happen, anything is possible.” Despite the betrayal and manipulation, Hearst believes there’s something real beneath it all. “With Ava, he can be who he is,” he explained. “They see each other without pretense.” That authenticity, according to Hearst, sets them apart from Ric’s other romances. Still, he admitted Ava wasn’t wrong to question Ric’s commitment. His character’s lingering feelings for Liz cast a shadow over the relationship, making Ava wary of being just a partner-in-crime rather than a true love. “He was seeing it as a partnership and obviously very much a physical attraction,” Hearst said, noting Ava’s perspective matters. “Why should she allow somebody to take advantage of her?” While the current storyline has driven a wedge between the pair, Hearst hasn’t given up hope. He emphasized his admiration for working with Maura West, pointing out that both their chemistry as actors and the dynamic between their characters make “Rava” too compelling to write off permanently. “As one of the directors said to us, ‘I think they’re just delicious together,’” Hearst recalled. The season has steadily raised the stakes with betrayals, shifting alliances, and threats that stretch across alternate worlds. Episode 7 ended with Chris surrendering to A.R.G.U.S. and Keith vowing revenge, setting up a finale that will decide the fate of Earth-X and the DCU. Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 8 trailer previews the finale The trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 8, titled “Full Nelson,” previews the highly anticipated finale. The footage shows Christopher Smith, also known as Peacemaker, back behind bars. He declares, “I’m the angel of f***ing death,” while Rick Flag Sr. leads a mission to explore the Quantum Unfolding Chamber’s alternate realities. A.R.G.U.S. drives its own agenda, but the trailer depicts the team questioning whether those motives can be trusted. The preview builds on the fallout from Episode 7. That episode revealed Chris and his team landed on Earth-X, a world where the Nazis won World War II. Chris briefly embraced the illusion of a better life with his father August and brother Keith still alive. The truth, however, drove him to surrender to A.R.G.U.S. His choice puts him in prison and at the center of the multiversal crisis. Keith survives the events and vows revenge. James Gunn confirmed that Season 2 functions as a prequel to Superman: Man of Tomorrow (2027). The finale positions Flag Sr.’s alliance with Lex Luthor as a key link to the wider DCU. Fans expect Captain Triumph and other multiversal threats to collide with Chris and his allies as they traverse the chamber’s shifting realities. When asked about a third season, Gunn said, “It is not right now. I think that people should—that doesn’t mean there aren’t plans for these characters, but it’s not necessarily Season 3 of Peacemaker. And then people should watch Episode 8 to see what happens, because maybe some of your questions will be answered in that episode by itself” (via Collider). 20. Former Cubs manager David Ross is interested in a return to managing, the ex-skipper told Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. “It’s an itch that hasn’t gone away.” Ross has been out of baseball for the past two years after getting fired by Chicago following the 2023 campaign. Ross spent four seasons at the helm in Chicago. He had no previous managing experience prior to taking over for Joe Maddon after the 2019 season. Ross led the Cubs to an NL Central title in the shortened 2020 season, but the squad was dispatched by the Marlins in the Wild Card round. Chicago failed to reach the playoffs for the final three years under Ross. After back-to-back seasons well below .500, Ross led the team to 83 wins in 2023, but they fell a game short of a Wild Card berth. The Cubs moved on that offseason, choosing to hand Craig Counsell a record five-year, $40MM deal. The jump from player to manager without a previous coaching gig was a bit surprising, but Ross was a familiar face in Chicago. He spent his final two seasons as a player with the Cubs, winning a World Series in 2016. The photo of Ross being carried off the field by his teammates was an iconic image following the curse-breaking victory. Ross relayed to Rosenthal that he was not interviewed by the Reds, Marlins, or White Sox during their managerial searches ahead of the 2025 season. He added that there were conversations about bench coach positions, but nothing came to fruition. The Athletic had previously reported that the Yankees and Orioles had shown interest in Ross for bench coach roles since he’d been fired by the Cubs, but the former catcher preferred a managerial position if he were to return to the dugout. This offseason presents plenty of opportunities. With Brian Snitker stepping down this week, there are now a staggering eight managerial openings around the league. The Twins and Giants fired their managers at the end of the regular season. The Nationals, Orioles, and Rockies did so during the season (though none of those teams have firmly declared that their interim skipper won’t be back). The Rangers and Bruce Bochy are parting ways. The Angels chose not to retain Ron Washington, who stepped away midseason due to heart surgery. The team also announced that interim manager Ray Montgomery, who took over for Washington, will not be back. Ross isn’t the only former manager in search of a new home. Bob Nightengale of USA Today wrote last month that Brandon Hyde, Derek Shelton, Bud Black, and Davey Martinez are all looking to land skipper positions after getting fired during this past season. Rocco Baldelli, Bob Melvin, Bochy and Washington were all let go at the end of the year. View the full article
  21. http://blogs.fangraphs.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Will-Vest-ALWCG3.jpgJunfu Han-USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Nobody likes a quick exit from the playoffs, but a brief October cameo would have been an especial humiliation for the 2025 Detroit Tigers. After spending much of the season fighting for the league’s best record, and collecting a 14-game divisional lead at one point, the Tigers went nine games under .500 in the second half. Not only was that bad enough to throw away the division title, Detroit nearly missed the playoffs altogether, only squeezing in thanks to a tiebreak advantage over the Houston Astros. So Thursday’s 6-3 win in Game 3 of the Wild Card series must come as a relief, especially given the measure of revenge that comes with beating Cleveland. Jack Flaherty got the call in Game 3, his first playoff appearance for the Tigers. There had to be some trepidation about Flaherty, given that his last quality start came back in mid-August. While his 4 2/3 innings of work were short on highlight moments, and he allowed three 100 mph liners that fortunately found leather instead of grass or dirt, Flaherty confined the hits to two-out rallies, leaving Cleveland little room for any bunting or other little-ball shenanigans until the fourth inning. A George Valera double and a José Ramírez single got the Guardians on the board in the fourth, but the danger ended when J-Ram was caught stealing and Chase DeLauter hit into a double play. Flaherty did at least avoid angering the cruel deity that governs predictions; last offseason, he famously said that the Tigers would have defeated the Guardians in last year’s playoffs if he hadn’t been traded to the Dodgers at the deadline. With Tarik Skubal pitching into the eighth on Tuesday, manager A.J. Hinch was quick to utilize his bullpen thereafter, first with Casey Mize in Game 2 and now Flaherty after 74 pitches in Game 3. While it didn’t surprise me that Flaherty was lifted in the fifth, I was a bit more surprised by who replaced him, with Kyle Finnegan coming in and facing all lefties, rather than Tyler Holton (though the latter did come in later for a scoreless bottom of the seventh). Slade Cecconi’s outing was a short one, and while he was hardly a disaster on the mound, consecutive third-inning singles from Gleyber Torres and Parker Meadows caused Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt to make an early call to the pen. In came Tim Herrin against the lefty Kerry Carpenter, whom Cecconi had tried to pitch around in the first inning, ultimately walking him. Herrin did allow an RBI double to Carpenter to open the scoring, but he retired Wenceel Pérez and Spencer Torkelson to limit the damage to a single run. The 1-1 game held until a sixth-inning homer from Dillon Dingler, who was born just an hour’s drive from Cleveland and played baseball for The Ohio State. The seventh turned out to be Cleveland’s annus horribilis. (I’m not sure what the Latin word for “inning” could possibly be.) Javier Báez started things off with a double for Detroit. Meadows got him to third on a bunt single that Erik Sabrowski didn’t get a play on quite fast enough. After Gleyber Torres grounded out and Meadows advanced to second, Hunter Gaddis intentionally walked Carpenter to set up the force play. Three singles drove in the runners, leaving Cleveland facing a daunting 6-1 deficit going into their half of the seventh. Cleveland’s last, best opportunity to make up the now-five-run deficit came in the eighth. Brayan Rocchio singled with one out, and a double from Steven Kwan drove him to third. Ramírez hit a fairly routine 3-1 grounder to first base, but Will Vest deflected the toss from Torkelson rather than catching it, allowing both runners to score. While everyone remembers the times that greed is good on the bases, few remember the times that the run-avarice is severely punished. Ramírez provided an example of the latter, as Vest’s redemption throw to second nailed him. It was J-Ram’s second out on the bases in this pivotal game. Vest stayed in the game for the ninth, and after three groundouts, Cleveland’s season was over. The ending for the Guardians may not feel great, but just getting here was an impressive feat for a team that didn’t get above .500 permanently until September. Exactly one month ago, the FanGraphs playoff probability for the Guardians had them at 2.5%, or about one in 40, just to make the playoffs. By winning the ALDS, the Tigers have effectively “reset” their second half of the season, and are right back where they would have been if not for the late-season struggles. While the Mariners will be favored, no team that starts Skubal twice in five games can fairly be called a long shot. Source View the full article

  24. Infielder Jose Barrero and the Orioles have reunited on a new minor league deal for 2026, according to Francys Romero of BeisbolFR. Barrero had signed a minor league deal with the club in July but this new deal reunites him with the O’s for 2026 and includes an invite to major league spring training. Barrero, 27, has appeared in five major league seasons but with limited playing time in each. He has appeared in a total of 161 games with a .182/.238/.257 batting line. He has nine stolen bases and provided defensive versatility. He has big league experience at the three infield spots to the left of first base, as well as center and right field. Picking up Barrero is a bet more on his past prospect pedigree. Baseball America ranked him as one of the top 100 prospects in the league in both 2021 and 2022, when he was with the Reds. He put up a .303/.380/.539 line in the minors in 2021, production which translated to a wRC+ of 142. Things have been choppy since then. As mentioned, his big league looks haven’t led to much. His minor league numbers also tailed off. He exhausted his final option season in 2023. The Reds put him on waivers in March of 2024. He was claimed by the Rangers, though that club managed to pass him through waivers unclaimed shortly thereafter. He spent most of that year on the minor league injured list. He only got into 49 games and slashed .188/.277/.345 in those. He signed a minor league deal with the Cardinals coming into 2025 and started the season in good form. He had a .299/.396/.517 line in Triple-A when the Cards called him up in late April, though they didn’t play him much. He was on the roster for about two months but only got 31 plate appearances, hitting .138/.194/.276 in that sporadic playing time. He was designated for assignment, cleared waivers and elected free agency, which is when he signed his aforementioned minor league deal with the Orioles. He produced a rough .190/.261/.344 line for Triple-A Norfolk down the stretch. Despite those numbers, the O’s apparently like Barrero enough to bring him back in a non-roster capacity and see what happens next year. He’s had some ups and downs but is still just 27, so perhaps he can recapture some of previous form. Photo courtesy of Jeff Curry, Imagn Images View the full article
  25. First baseman Pete Alonso has already said he will be opting out of his deal with the Mets and re-entering free agency, which could set up another will-they-won’t-they winter. A report from Will Sammon of The Athletic suggests that the Mets aren’t thrilled with Alonso’s defense and that spending more time at designated hitter may be necessary if the two sides do end up reuniting. Alonso has been a mainstay at first base for the Mets for many years. He has started at least 134 games there in each of the past six full seasons, including at least 160 games in each of the past two campaigns. While that reliable presence is valuable, the actual results have been less consistent. Defensive Runs Saved oscillated between giving Alonso positive and negative grades earlier in his career but has soured on him more recently. He was credited with a -3 score last year and -9 this season, bringing him down to -7 for his whole career. Outs Above Average has been more consistently down on him, as 2021 is the only year that metric had him above average. He’s at -33 for his career overall, including -8 in 2024 and -9 in 2025. Alonso has only ever played for the Mets but the club seemed willing to let him go last winter. He reached free agency and lingered unsigned until February, when he and the Mets finally reunited on a two-year, $54MM deal which allowed him to opt out after the first season. Just prior to that reunion, Mets owner Steve Cohen publicly complained about the “exhausting” negotiations. It was often speculated last offseason that the Mets were willing to let Alonso walk. At that point, the Mets would perhaps move Mark Vientos from third base to first base, leaving the hot corner open for someone like Brett Baty, Ronny Mauricio or Luisangel Acuña. Now that Alonso is returning to free agency, that kind of speculation might return. It’s unknown if Alonso is willing to spend more time in the DH slot or if he prides himself on continuing to be out there at first. If he is open to it, the Mets could accommodate him. Most of their DH at-bats went to Starling Marte this year, with Jesse Winker also in the mix before he got hurt. Both players are impending free agents, so the Mets could offer plenty of DH time to Alonso or someone else. It’s also possible Alonso plays for a team other than the Mets for the first time. He didn’t get the long-term deal he was looking for last winter but his upcoming market could be stronger. He won’t be attached to a qualifying offer this time since players can only receive the QO once. He’s also coming off a better offensive platform, having increased his batting line from .240/.329/.459 in 2024 to .272/.347/.524 in 2025. But on the other hand, he’s about to turn 31 years old and other teams might be just as concerned about his glovework as the Mets. Speaking of Marte, he spoke to Sammon this week, saying that he hopes to play for several more years and would be open to doing that as a Met. “Only God knows, but with continued good health, I’d love to have the opportunity to play at least three or four more years,” Marte said, “and continue to be part of this team and continue to help the young guys grow.” Marte last reached free agency ahead of the 2022 season, when he was going into his age-33 campaign. He and the Mets agreed to a four-year, $78MM pact, which is now ending. The first year went well, as he slashed .292/.347/.468 for a 133 wRC+ and stole 18 bases. However, he required groin surgery after that season and hasn’t been at that level since. He made multiple trips to the IL in 2023 and hit just .248/.301/.324 for a wRC+ of 75. He has bounced back somewhat in the two most recent seasons. He just hit .270/.335/.410 for a 112 wRC+ this year but, as mentioned, was mostly a DH. He only logged 65 innings in the outfield. The bat is still decent but he’s about to turn 37 years old, so he’s probably ticketed for a part-time role somewhere. Based on Sammon’s piece, Marte seems to also provide intangibles as a clubhouse leader. That could help his market somewhat but he’ll have considerably less earning power than in his previous trip to free agency. As mentioned, the Mets have DH at-bats available, though they will probably wait to see how things go with Alonso and other free agents before they consider bringing back Marte. Elsewhere on the roster, Andy Martino of SNY provides an update on left-hander Sean Manaea. Martino says Manaea finished the season with his elbow feeling good and may not need surgery, though the final decision will wait until after a cool-down period. Manaea began the season on the injured list due to an oblique strain. He was working back from that injury in June when a loose body was found in his elbow. Despite that elbow issue, he made it back from the IL in July. His results from there weren’t great, though there was less concern under the hood. A 5.64 earned run average is obviously not good but his 28.5% strikeout rate and 4.6% walk rate were both strong. He allowed 13 home runs in just 60 2/3 innings, with a home run to flyball rate of 19.4% in that small sample. His 3.08 SIERA, a measure that corrects for such abnormalities, suggested his ERA would have been much better with some normalization in a larger sample size. The Mets signed the lefty to a three-year, $75MM deal coming into this season. They will obviously want him to be fully healthy and back to his usual self next year, especially with questions all throughout the rest of their rotation. The fact that he’s trending towards not needing surgery is encouraging, though further updates should be forthcoming in the future. Photo courtesy of Brad Mills, Imagn Images View the full article
