  2. Photo Credit: Marvel Some new Spider-Man 4 set photos preview Scorpion’s MCU return. Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man 4, also known as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is currently in production. Directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ Destin Daniel Cretton, the film will once again see Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. It will be released in theaters next summer. What do we see in the Spider-Man 4 set photos? Scooper MyTimeToShineHello shared a handful of Spider-Man 4 set photos on Twitter, which can be viewed below. The images show Michael Mando’s Scorpion in an all-white suit, while there appear to be handcuffs on his left wrist in one of them. Elsewhere on social media, as noted by ComicBookMovie, some new photos of Holland in his Spider-Man suit have been posted by @AllOnFilm, while @captaincupkicks shared an image of Holland holding what seems to be Spider-Man 4’s script; however, the photo is too far away and blurry to make out what any of the words say. Official plot details for Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day remain heavily under wraps at this time. In addition to Holland and Mando, the latter of whom hasn’t been seen in the MCU since 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, the cast of Spider-Man 4 includes Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, and Marvin Jones III as Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone. Additionally, Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink, The Bear’s Liza Colón-Zayas, and Severance’s Trammel Tillman have been cast in undisclosed roles, while there have been conflicting reports regarding whether or not Charlie Cox’s Daredevil/Matt Murdock will show up. Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU. Following that comes Avengers: Doomsday on December 16, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. Taylor Frankie Paul ‘needs someone that can calm her storm’ in Bachelorette Season 22, per Mayci Neeley The CEO of BabyMama expressed optimism about Taylor Frankie Paul’s upcoming journey on The Bachelorette Season 22. She offered advice and shared her perspective about the ideal candidate for her co-star. “[Taylor] needs someone that can calm her storm,” Mayci Neeley expressed during an interview with E! News. “She needs someone that’s in the middle, so they’re not too calm and chill, because she needs a little bit of crazy in there. Someone that’s not chaotic, but they’re not, like, Eeyore.” “I know Taylor likes dark hair, blue eyes,” the Told You So author continued, noting Paul’s preferences. “But I told her, ‘Don’t go in there and diminish anyone who maybe isn’t that, because then maybe you’ll really like them.’ So, she’s like, ‘Oh, I won’t.” Over the years, the two have shared a strong friendship, with Neeley supporting Paul through her tough times. Hence, she wants the latter to find “someone that treats her well” and can be a good father figure for her kids. Additionally, Mayci Neeley shared that while “a little nervous,” she is “very excited” for her friend’s fresh start and new experiences. Meanwhile, Taylor Frankie Paul also shared her feelings about this period in her life on the Call Her Daddy podcast. “This is something so new for me because obviously I got married young, divorced, and then the first guy I met was the next relationship.” She admitted, “So, I have not done the whole meeting new people out, like dating at the same time.” The post Taylor Frankie Paul Receives Advice From Mayci Neeley for Bachelorette Season 22 appeared first on ComingSoon.net - Movie Trailers, TV & Streaming News, and More. 4. (Photo Credit: Amazon MGM Studios) Amazon MGM Studios has released the official trailer for Mercy, its newest sci-fi thriller led by Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt and Dune star Rebecca Ferguson. The movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters on January 23, 2026. Check out the Mercy trailer below (watch more trailers): What does the Mercy trailer show? The video features a world where an artificial intelligence is used to judge people for their crimes. It shows Pratt’s character as he gets accused of murdering his wife. In a short amount of time, he must find a way to prove his innocence to an advanced intellectual non-human being, who will provide him with the means to gather the evidence he needs. Failure to prove his innocence will result in his execution. The trailer also reveals that he was actually one of the people who helped create the A.I. judicial system. Mercy is directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) from a screenplay written by Marco van Belle. This marks the latest collaboration between Pratt and the filmmaker after previously working together in 2008’s action thriller Wanted. The cast will also feature Annabelle Wallis, Kali Reis, Rafi Gavron, Chris Sullivan, Kenneth Choi, and Kylie Rogers. It is produced by Bekmambetov, Charles Roven, Robert Amidon, and Majd Nassif, with Mark Moran and Todd Williams serving as executive producers. “90 minutes to prove your innocence or face execution,” reads the official synopsis. “In the near future, a detective (Pratt) stands on trial accused of murdering his wife. He has 90 minutes to prove his innocence to the advanced A.I. Judge (Ferguson) he once championed, before it determines his fate.” Originally reported by Maggie Dela Paz at SuperHeroHype. 6. Photo Credit: Randy Holmes | Disney via Getty Images During a promotional interview for his upcoming film Tron: Ares, veteran actor Jeff Bridges brought back his legendary “Dude” role from The Big Lebowski. Decked out in his classic cardigan, sunglasses, and holding a White Russian, he addressed the audience in the style of his iconic character. What Jeff Bridges said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! On a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host handed the Iron Man star a cardigan and sunglasses to get him into his iconic “Dude” role. Once in character, Jeff Bridges leaned back and said, Can we just all calm the f— down? I mean, c’mon. I’m talking about, you know, all the wars, the fighting, the canceling. I mean, let’s just chill out, man. C’mon, tone it down.” Bridges also threw in a cheeky jab at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), saying, “Let’s get ICE off our streets and into our beverages, man.” Then, he called for unity: “So let’s just abide together. Yes, we can do this.” The 75-year-old actor’s quirky, quick-witted remarks had everyone cheering and clapping nonstop. Moreover, Kimmel’s sidekick, Guillermo Rodriguez, joined in Bridges’ act with a matching sweater and a cocktail in hand. For the unversed, “The Dude” is Jeff Bridges’ legendary character from the 1998 cult classic The Big Lebowski. Not too long ago, he even hinted he’s ready to get back into those laid-back shoes for a sequel alongside Julianne Moore. That said, Bridges also admitted that the Coen brothers might not be totally on board. He laughed, saying, “I don’t think that’s really their style. But, hey, they surprise us all the time… If they called me up and said, ‘Hey, let’s do it again,’ I’d be like, ‘Absolutely, come on!’” (via Daily Mail) Jeff Bridges’ jibe at the ICE is the latest of many from numerous members of the entertainment industry. This comes amidst the numerous immigration enforcement operations being carried out in Chicago. Meanwhile, Tricia McLaughlin, the Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs for the Department of Homeland Security, criticized the Academy Award winner’s comments about ICE on Jimmy Kimmel Live! As per USA Today, she called his words “disgusting.” McLaughlin also stated that public figures should “stop demonizing our brave law enforcement.” The post Jeff Bridges Asks the World to ‘Calm the F– Down’ in True Big Lebowski Fashion appeared first on ComingSoon.net - Movie Trailers, TV & Streaming News, and More. Carolyn Soper serves as a producer for the Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Locksmith movie, while DNEG Animation is a digital partner. Erivo’s performance as Elphaba earned her a Best Actress Academy Award nomination last year, while she was also nominated for the same award in 2019 for her Harriet. 11. (Photo Credit: Parisa Taghizadeh/Netflix) ComingSoon spoke with The Woman in Cabin 10 stars Guy Pearce and David Ajala to learn more about the new Netflix movie. The duo discussed working with Keira Knightley, their roles in the film, and how they play into a mystery movie. The film will begin streaming on Netflix starting on October 10, 2025. “While on board a luxury yacht for a travel assignment, a journalist witnesses a passenger thrown overboard late at night, only to be told that it didn’t happen, as all passengers and crew are accounted for. Despite no one believing her, she continues to look for answers, putting her own life in danger,” says the official logline. Tyler Treese: Guy, what elements of this character really grabbed you and made you wanna be a part of this mystery, which has such a fun ensemble cast of characters? Guy Pearce: Well, there were a number of things about it that I felt sort of compelled by, but I think probably with the character, just his seeming ability to kind of just keep things under wraps and under control. But the cracks kind of open up, and we start to sort of see him lose some of that control. That’s an interesting element to me, because I do think that as humans in life… I mean, I know I’m a bit of a control freak, so trying to keep control of any situation or any day or any kind of bigger situation you’re in is something that we’re all trying to manage in a way. So to play a character that is sort of realized this beautifully on the page is great fun to play. David, you’re the ex-boyfriend in this film. Even though there’s a coldness at first, there’s still clearly some admiration and feelings there. How was it establishing with Keira what their kind of rapport would be and that back and forth? David Ajala: I think with regards to kind of fleshing out their history, we kept it really kind of loose. I think Keira and myself, a lot of our conversations were more questions as opposed to answers. I think by asking ourselves the right kind of questions, we will hopefully yield the right kind of fruit. So we weren’t married to any kind of specific ideas, but we had a loose understanding of what the relationship was like. And our relationship was probably very one-sided. Our man, Ben Morgan, found it hard to fully commit and take accountability. Guy, I was curious what you thought about what stood out about Keira as a scene partner? Because there are some intense scenes between you two, especially as the film goes on. Guy Pearce: I’ve always really liked Keira and her work and what she offers. But to actually work with her and to see how professional she is and that she just wants to get on with it, and yeah, she’s smart but open, so she was very, very easy to work with. Funnily enough, I don’t feel like I had a huge amount to do with her. I sort of wish I’d had more to do with her. But she’s a real pro. I just love working with people who leave the ego at the door and then just get on with it, you know? David, the first half of this film is a true whodunit, and everybody is suspicious. As an actor, do you try to play into that at all, or is that kinda left up to the director and editing? Ajala: Good question. It kind of is because Simon Stone is wonderful to work with, and he creates such a healthy, exciting working environment. So when it comes to the nature of our characters and our intentions and what have you, there’s only so much that we can do. A lot of this film takes shape in the editing suite, so a look on the day, which may have been very, very casual, that I throw to Guy or whatever, may be used for something very, very specific, and it looks like I’m looking at Keira or someone else. So the story gets manipulated during the editing process. But as far as I’m concerned, I really try to be unaware of the optics of the story that we’re telling and just try and pay attention to what’s in front of me to a degree. Thanks to Guy Pearce and David Ajala for taking the time to talk about The Woman in Cabin 10. 12. (Photo by Taylor Hill/FilmMagic) A frequent Oscar nominee has joined the cast of the upcoming Ocean’s Eleven prequel movie. Twisters’ Lee Isaac Chung has been tapped to direct a movie that will serve as a prequel to Ocean’s Eleven. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, Ocean’s Eleven, which is a remake of a 1960s film, was released in 2001 and stars George Clooney as Danny Ocean, Brad Pitt as Rusty, Matt Damon as Linus Caldwell, Julia Roberts as Tess Ocean, and Andy García as Terry Benedict. Who has joined the cast of the Ocean’s Eleven prequel? While it was previously known that Barbie’s Margot Robbie would be starring in the Ocean’s Eleven prequel, Deadline is now reporting that Bradley Cooper will also have a major role in the film. Per The Hollywood Reporter, there was a period of time when Ryan Gosling was supposed to star in the movie alongside Robbie, though he has now seemingly been replaced by Cooper. Cooper’s deal is not officially closed as of yet; however, “Cooper has been close with Robbie over the years and always wanted to work together, and this seemed the perfect opportunity, and after a meeting with Chung, Cooper was on board.” Official lot details are being kept under wraps at this time. Having made his Hollywood screen debut in 2001’s Wet Hot American Summer, Cooper is known for voicing Rocket Raccoon in the MCU and for starring in movies such as 2009’s The Hangover, 2011’s Limitless, 2021’s Nightmare Alley, and more. He has been nominated for a number of different Oscars throughout his lifetime — not just for acting, but also for directing, writing, and producing. Following 2018’s A Star Is Born and 2023’s Maestro, Cooper’s next directorial effort is Is This Thing On?, which will be released this coming December. Robbie’s LuckyChap production company will produce the Ocean’s Eleven prequel movie. A release date has not yet been set by Warner Bros. Pictures, though production on the project is expected to start next year. 13. GM Dana Brown and manager Joe Espada are sticking around, but that doesn’t mean the Astros aren’t making big changes. The team is parting ways with hitting coaches Alex Cintrón and Troy Snitker, catching coach Michael Collins, head athletic trainer Jeremiah Randall, and assistant GM Andrew Ball, as relayed by Brian McTaggart of MLB.com and Chandler Rome of The Athletic. It’s no shock that the Astros are looking for new blood. They missed the playoffs this year for the first time since 2016, after a season marred by injuries and offensive inconsistency. McTaggart confirmed yesterday that both Brown and Espada would return in 2026, but it appears that Cintrón, Snitker, Collins, Randall, and Ball aren’t so lucky. Cintrón first joined the Astros as an interpreter and soon became the first base coach. He and Snitker, previously a minor league hitting coach, took over as Houston’s co-hitting coaches in 2019, and they filled the role together for the next seven years. There is no question that they inherited a highly talented group, but all the same, Cintrón and Snitker deserve their fair share of credit for guiding an offense that led the AL in all three triple-slash categories from 2019-24. Unfortunately, the Astros finished with just a 100 wRC+ in 2025, indicating league-average levels of offensive production. The hitting coaches can’t be blamed for the departure of Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman or injuries to Yordan Alvarez and Isaac Paredes, but nonetheless, it’s not surprising that the organization decided to head in a new direction. Speaking of injuries, Alvarez and Paredes were far from the only Astros to miss significant time, and that likely explains why Randall is out of a job after 10 seasons as Houston’s head athletic trainer. According to the Baseball Prospectus Injured List Ledger, no team lost more value to the IL than the Astros in 2025. And while some of those injuries might have been unpredictable and unpreventable, the club dealt with some particular scrutiny for how it handled injuries to Alvarez and Jake Meyers. Collins grew up playing cricket in Australia (per Leah Vann of Chron) before learning to play baseball and quickly generating interest from MLB scouts. After a long minor league career, he moved into minor league coaching and eventually joined the Astros as a bullpen catcher in 2018. He took over catching coach duties the following season. Ball previously worked in the Rays and Angels front offices before he joined the Astros as an assistant GM prior to the 2022 season. He was part of the team that temporarily took over Houston’s front office the following winter in the interim period between the end of James Click’s time as GM and the beginning of Brown’s tenure. According to the Astros’ website, Ball’s duties included overseeing the team’s research & development and sports medicine & performance departments. View the full article
  14. Photo Credit: Miramax / Paramount Pictures | Bravo (via YouTube) While promoting his upcoming film, Roofman, actor and producer Channing Tatum finally revealed the truth behind Vanderpump Rules star Jax Taylor’s claims of them being roommates. Over the years, Taylor, on multiple occasions, has stated that the two used to be roommates in New York City. However, Tatum seems to remember his younger days quite differently. Channing Tatum says he and Jax Taylor weren’t roommates despite reality star’s claims Recently, the 45-year-old actor, along with his Roofman co-star Kirsten Dunst and director Derek Cianfrance, appeared on a podcast. On an episode of Andy Cohen Live, Channing Tatum set the record straight about Jax Taylor’s roommate claims. He said, “Absolutely not. I don’t think I ever roommated with him.” He then got into the details of the living conditions for New York City models in the 2000s. “They’ll throw you in a model house that has just like a bed,” Tatum said. “I got kicked out of my first model house. I got in a fight with one of the guys.” Meanwhile, in May 2023, in an interview with Rolling Stone, Taylor elaborated on how he remembers his early days. “I started modeling in Miami and went to New York,” he said. “This was around 2002, and those agencies had apartments for models that were coming into town. They’re basically like dorm rooms with bunk beds. A tiny room with bunk beds and a bathroom. Channing was one of six guys in our room.” Therefore, as per the Magic Mike star’s recent confirmation, Jax Taylor seems to have been mistaken. However, the Vanderpump Rules star also mentioned a commercial that Channing Tatum did, and was factually right about it. After describing their living situation, he added, “Now, he got famous real quick. He did this Mountain Dew commercial where he flipped a car, and once he got that job, he took off.” Thus, while the truth behind Channing Tatum and Jax Taylor being roommates might still feel like a mystery, the 21 Jump Street actor sounded pretty confident while denying the fact to be true. 15. (Image Credit: Warner Bros. Discovery) The chicken jockey craze is growing, with Warner Bros. Pictures announcing A Minecraft Movie 2’s release date, revealing when fans will get to see the next chapter in the franchise. When does A Minecraft Movie 2 release? In a new announcement on Thursday, WB confirmed A Minecraft Movie 2 will release on July 23, 2027. They also celebrated the news with a new poster of the movie’s building table, with two strange, purple pickaxes sitting on top of them. Check it out below: (Image Credit: Warner Bros.) 2025’s A Minecraft Movie was released in April, and became a smash hit almost immediately. The film grossed over $950 million, and is the third-highest-grossing film of 2025, to date. Talks of a sequel began immediately, although it’s unclear just who from the original film will return. It’s assumed that Jack Black, who led the film as Steve, will be making a return. The first film also starred Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, Sebastian Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge, though it’s unknown as of now whether or not they will return. Given how their stories ended in the first film, though, a return to the Overworld could be possible. The first film was directed by Jared Hess, from a screenplay written by Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer, Neil Widener, Gavin James, and Chris Galletta. The movie is available to watch now on HBO Max and other platforms. Originally reported by Anthony Nash at SuperHeroHype. 17. Rangers starter Nathan Eovaldi has undergone surgery to repair a sports hernia, reports Jeff Wilson of DLLS Sports. GM Ross Fenstermaker revealed earlier this month that the righty would be meeting with a specialist to determine the best course of treatment, and evidently, surgery was the conclusion they came to. Willson suggests that the Rangers expect Eovaldi to be fully recovered from the hernia surgery (and the strained rotator cuff that ended his season in August) by the time spring training rolls around, presuming he suffers no setbacks. In addition to the rotator cuff strain, Eovaldi also missed a month earlier in the season with what was originally labelled a triceps issue and later diagnosed as posterior elbow inflammation. When he took the mound, however, the 35-year-old looked better than ever in his 14th big league season. He finished with a 1.73 ERA in 22 starts. Like his ERA, his xERA and SIERA were also career-bests. His velocity was down, but he compensated with pristine command, walking just 4.2% of the batters he faced, and he still did a phenomenal job of missing bats and inducing soft contact. If it weren’t for the time he missed, Eovaldi likely would have been a strong contender for the AL Cy Young, and even so, there’s a good chance he’ll earn some votes for just the second time in his career. Eovaldi’s health will be paramount for the Rangers in 2026. RosterResource estimates that the team has about $45MM coming off the books this winter, but it doesn’t seem like ownership is ready to foot the bill for a high-spending offseason. When Bruce Bochy stepped down as manager, president of baseball operations Chris Young explained that the team would be focusing on youth moving forward, citing “financial uncertainty.” That certainly suggests that Texas won’t be making many major additions in the coming months. So, if the Rangers want any hope of improving upon a second straight mediocre finish and contending in 2026, the stars who are already under contract will need to put the team on their back. A full, healthy season from Eovaldi – especially the version of Eovaldi on display in 2025 – would go a long way for this team in 2026. View the full article
  18. As we continue to settle into October, we’re also taking a look back at what held interest in September across the North American public library space. Turns out, it was a lot of what held interest in the previous month, with a few exceptions. The number one spot, for instance, was previously held by Kristin Hannah’s The Women, but is now occupied by Emily Henry’s Great Big Beautiful Life. There are other spots throughout the list where certain books have moved up the list and others down. And, the books listed from #16 to #20 have mostly been replaced by books that weren’t on the list last month. Overall, though, the list mostly seems to mirror bestseller lists, which are highly driven by budget sizes. For more diverse selections, make sure to look at this roundup of notable BIPOC books for October. They range from the dystopian and National Book Award-nominated A Guardian and a Thief by Megha Majumdar to the similarly award-nominated artist-trying-to-make-it-in-New-York-City story Minor Black Figures by Brandon Taylor. There’s also the knight/witch sapphic fantasy The Isle in the Silver Sea by Tasha Suri, and the Puerto Rican barrio-set generational tale This Is the Only Kingdom by Jaquira Díaz. 22. (Photo by Arturo Holmes/WireImage) Jeremy Strong is starring in a new Paramount+ show about 9/11 first responders. Strong is best known for playing Kendall Roy in HBO’s Succession. That role won him an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Emmy Award in 2020, while he was also nominated for the same accolade two other times. He was also recently nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his portrayal of Roy Cohn in 2024’s The Apprentice. What is Jeremy Strong’s 9/11 TV show about? Per The Hollywood Reporter, Jeremy Strong has now been tapped to star in 9/12, a six-episode limited series that is written, directed, and executive produced by Tobias Lindholm. The show is about “a landmark David vs. Goliath legal struggle that first responders to the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attack faced before eventually winning compensation.” In addition to playing class-action lawyer Jason Smith, Strong will also executive produce the series, which will begin production in 2026. Frank Pugliese also serves as a writer and executive producer. “Though rooted in the unprecedented attacks of September 11, 2001, 9/12 speaks to struggles that reach far beyond that day. It asks what happens when those who risked everything are abandoned by the very institutions meant to protect them. The series is a testament to human strength and perseverance in the face of unthinkable adversity — the very tension that compelled me to tell this story,” Lindholm said. Strong said, “The great American historian David Halberstam once wrote about Sept. 11, 2001, ‘On a day when the worst of mankind showed itself, the best of mankind answered.’ 9/12 is about the best of us — our first responders whose official response time on 9/11 was five seconds. It is about a moment of unity and togetherness in this divided country, when, amidst the wreckage, we rebuilt and rose again from the rubble.” 9/12 will be released on Paramount+ in 2027. 24. Photo Credit: HBO Max The first trailer for the new Game of Thrones spin-off show, titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has been released. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the forthcoming six-episode Game of Thrones spin-off show that premieres on HBO Max next year. Created by Ira Parker and George R. R. Martin, the series is an adaptation of the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas. Check out the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms trailer below (watch more trailers and clips): What do we know about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms? A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms stars Peter Claffey as Sir Duncan the Tall/Dunk, Dexter Sol Ansell as Prince Aegon Targaryen/Egg, Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion “Brightflame” Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor “Breakspear” Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Prince Maker Targaryen. The official logline reads, “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.” Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Parker explained how A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be different than Game of Thrones and the other HBO spin-off show, House of the Dragon. “All decisions came down to Dunk, trying to channel the type of person he is into every aspect of this show, even the title sequence,” Parker explained. “The title sequences on the original [Game of Thrones] and House of Dragon are big and epic and incredible. Ramin Djawadi’s score is orchestral and large and beautiful. That’s not really Dunk’s M.O. He’s plain and he’s simple and he’s to-the-point. He doesn’t have a lot of flash to him. “…Nobody’s thinking about magic. This could basically be 14th-century Britain. This is hard-nose, grind it out, gritty, medieval knights, cold with a really light, hopeful touch. It’s a wonderful place to be. We are ground up in this series, we are starting right at the bottom. We’re not with the lords and ladies, the kings and queens.” A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres on January 18, 2026, on HBO Max. Originally reported by Brandon Schreur at SuperHeroHype. 25. Red Sox catcher Connor Wong went under the knife for a right hand carpal boss excision. The procedure, which the team described as “successful,” was performed earlier this morning by Dr. Matthew Leibman at Mass General Brigham Hospital. The Red Sox have not yet provided further details about the timeline for Wong’s recovery. According to the Cleveland Clinic, a carpal boss is a benign “bony overgrowth or lump” found on the back of one’s hand or wrist. The condition doesn’t always cause pain, but the fact that Wong had his carpal boss removed suggests it was causing him at least some degree of discomfort. Most people return to “typical activity” within two to six weeks following a carpal boss excision. While that timeline could be longer for a professional athlete, it seems likely Wong will be back to full strength by the time he reports for training camp next spring. The 29-year-old, who bats and throws right-handed, spent four weeks on the injured list early in the season after fracturing his left pinky finger. However, this is the first time the Red Sox have mentioned any sort of issue with his dominant hand. Wong started behind the dish on the final day of the regular season, and while he did not appear in the playoffs, that decision seemingly had more to do with his poor performance all season than any injury concerns. As for how much his poor performance might have had to do with the carpal boss? Wong can only hope it played a significant factor and that having it removed will help him rebound in 2026. After significantly outperforming his expected stats (en route to a .280/.333/.425 slash line) last season, Wong saw his luck take a sharp turn for the worse. Through 63 games in 2025, he hit below .200 with zero home runs. The 42-point gap between his wOBA and xwOBA is a good sign for Wong going forward, but that said, even his xwOBA would have ranked him among the bottom 3% of hitters in the sport if he had enough plate appearances to qualify. He grounded into seven double plays, drove in just seven runs, and finished with -0.7 FanGraphs WAR. It certainly didn’t help that, once again, he posted negative defense metrics across the board. Wong wasn’t Boston’s only backstop who spent time at Mass General Brigham recently. Carlos Narváez, who usurped Wong as the team’s starting catcher this year, went in for a left knee meniscectomy yesterday. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow previously described the procedure as a “cleanup,” clarifying that he expects Narváez to be back at full strength by spring training. Narvaez will presumably slot in as Boston’s primary catcher for 2026, while Wong’s status with the organization is up in the air. He is projected to earn $1.6MM in his first year of arbitration eligibility, and after the season he just had, it wouldn’t be entirely surprising to see the Red Sox non-tender him instead.
