  2. Photo Credit: Marvel Two Marvel shows, X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, have received some big updates. Marvel Studios’ X-Men ’97 premiered on the Disney+ streaming service in March 2024. A revival of X-Men: The Animated Series, the show was created by Beau DeMayo. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, meanwhile, arrived in January 2025. That Marvel Animation series is created by Jeff Trammell and explores Peter Parker’s early days as Spider-Man. Both shows are set in alternative timelines from the main MCU. What are the updates on the Marvel shows? Per Variety, it has been announced that X-Men ’97 Season 2 will premiere in the summer of 2026. Additionally, the show has now been officially renewed for Season 3. “A trailer shown in the room to [New York] Comic Con attendees showed the return of the evil mutant Apocalypse and the X-Men characters scattered across time,” the article notes. “The heroes, like Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Jubilee, Nightcrawler, and more, must find their way back to the 1990s after being lost in the past and future.” Variety also reports that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 arrives in the fall of 2026. A trailer for that was also shown at New York Comic Con (neither trailer has been released online as of yet), where it was revealed that Venom and Charlie Cox’s Daredevil will be part of the show’s next entry. “The trailer revealed that Season 2 will introduce the Venom symbiote, Gwen Stacy and bring back Charlie Cox’s Daredevil,” the article states. “It also showed the returns of Norman and Harry Osborn, villains like Doctor Octopus, Chameleon, and Scorpion, and the emergence of Nico Minoru’s magical powers.” Both X-Men ’97 Season 1 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 1 are available to watch on the Disney+ streaming service at this time. Am I allowed to say this now?’ So it was a long time in the works, and I’m so excited to be back.” Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will premiere on the Disney+ streaming service in March 2026. 5. Photo Credit: Marvel The first trailer for VisionQuest was shown at New York Comic Con. VisionQuest, sometimes referred to as Vision Quest, is the forthcoming Marvel Television series arriving on Disney+ next year. Serving as a spin-off to WandaVision, the show is created by Terry Matalas and will once again see Paul Bettany reprise his role as Vision. What happens in the VisionQuest trailer? While the VisionQuest trailer that was shown at New York Comic Con hasn’t been released online, Variety has a description of the footage, which offers some insight as to what MCU fans can expect from the new show. “The trailer showed Bettany back as White Vision from the ending of WandaVision, plus a regular-looking human version,” the article reads. “There was also human versions of Ultron, who was voiced by James Spader in the second Avengers movie, and the AI programs Jarvis, Friday, and Edith. At the end of the trailer, there was a brief shot of an adult Tommy, Vision, and Wanda’s son that appeared as a child in WandaVision. “Vision Quest was described as the third part of a trilogy that included WandaVision and Agatha All Along. In the trailer, Bettany walks up to a white mansion and is greeted by human servants who are really just recreated AI programs. They include Jarvis, who was Tony Stark’s AI program that later became Vision; Friday, who replaced Jarvis and was the AI assistant to Stark and Spider-Man; and Edith, the AI program in Stark’s sunglasses from Spider-Man: Far From Home.” In addition to Bettany and Spader, the cast of Marvel Studios’ VisionQuest includes Todd Stashwick as Paladin, Ruaridh Mollica as Thomas Shepherd, T’Na Miller as Jocasta, Emily Hampshire as Edith, Orla Brady as Friday, Faran Tahir as Raza, and more. Marvel’s VisionQuest will premiere on the Disney+ streaming service in 2026, though an exact premiere date has not yet been set. Originally reported by Brandon Schreur at SuperHeroHype. 8. The Blue Jays have announced the 26 players who will be part of their American League Championship Series roster against the Mariners. As in the ALDS, the Jays will be using 13 pitchers and 13 position players, though a couple of new arms will be joining the pitching staff. The full list… Catchers: Alejandro Kirk, Tyler Heineman Infielders: Addison Barger, Ernie Clement, Andres Gimenez, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Isiah Kiner-Falefa Outfielders: Nathan Lukes, Anthony Santander, Davis Schneider, George Springer, Myles Straw, Daulton Varsho Left-handed pitchers: Mason Fluharty, Eric Lauer, Brendon Little Right-handed pitchers: Chris Bassitt, Shane Bieber, Seranthony Dominguez, Braydon Fisher, Kevin Gausman, Jeff Hoffman, Yariel Rodriguez, Max Scherzer, Louis Varland, Trey Yesavage Beginning with the most notable omission from the roster, Bo Bichette remains unavailable, as the shortstop has yet to fully recover from a left knee sprain that has kept him out of action since September 6. Bichette didn’t start any running work until this past Wednesday, but a move to a bit more high-intensity running on the bases yesterday didn’t yield much progress. Bichette clearly looked to be in discomfort following even this brief session, which created doubt that he would indeed be healthy enough to be activated. Since Bichette has been able to take batting practice and face live hitting, there had been some speculation that the Jays might use Bichette just in a DH role or even as a pinch-hitting specialist. Even that limited capacity would involve Bichette having to run in some form if he ended up getting hits, of course, and yesterday’s footage implies that Bichette’s knee is still far from 100 percent. Technically, the Jays could still activate Bichette at some point during the ALCS if another injury arose. But the far likelier scenario is that Bichette won’t see any action until the World Series should Toronto advance, and it remains unclear if even 12 more days of rest and rehab will be enough for Bichette to return at all during the Jays’ postseason run. By this point the Blue Jays have gotten used to playing without Bichette to some extent. Gimenez has settled in as the glove-first option at shortstop, and the Jays were will able to both win the AL East and defeat the Yankees in the ALDS without Bichette available. That said, obviously Toronto’s roster is better with Bichette than without, and the Jays figure to miss his bat against the Mariners’ deep pitching staff. Speaking of rotations, Bassitt and Scherzer return to the roster after being left out of the ALCS picture. Scherzer was omitted since manager John Schneider felt the veteran didn’t match up well against the Yankees in particular, while Bassitt wasn’t fully recovered from a bout of back tightness that sent him to the 15-day injured list on September 19. The Jays felt they could navigate the five-game ALDS with only three starters (Gausman, Yesavage, Bieber) on the roster, and that proved to be the case, as the relief corps stepped up with a big bullpen-game performance in the clinching Game 4. Gausman is set to start Game 1, and in all likelihood rookie sensation Yesavage will start Game 2 and Bieber will go in Game 3. Still, Gausman is the only announced starter to date, so the Blue Jays might still yet creative with their exact deployment of their starters. Not all five starters will actually start, of course, leaving some question with how Bassitt or Scherzer will be used. Bassitt has a little more career experience as a reliever, yet Scherzer struggled so much down the stretch that that recent form is a bigger factor for the Jays than Scherzer’s distinguished postseason track record. Bassitt and Scherzer will be taking the places of relievers Tommy Nance and Justin Bruihl. Nance was inching his way into higher-leverage work after delivering a 1.99 ERA over 30 1/3 innings in the regular season, but he didn’t look sharp in posting a 13.50 ERA over 1 1/3 innings in the ALDS. Bruihl was charged for two earned runs in his lone one-third of an inning of ALDS work, and the southpaw was something of a 26th man for much of Toronto’s season, as he logged 13 2/3 innings with a 5.27 ERA. 11. The postseason field has been narrowed down to four teams, in mostly chalk fashion. Each member of the final four is a division winner, and three of the clubs received first-round byes. The Dodgers were the only club who had to advance through the wild card round, and the reigning World Series champs aren’t exactly underdogs. In fact, all of the Brewers, Mariners, and Blue Jays had a lot more questions to answer about their playoff readiness given a recent lack of postseason success, yet all three teams were up to the task in winning their League Championship Series matchups. Only the Yankees have reached the World Series more times than the Dodgers, who are vying for the franchise’s 23rd trip to the Fall Classic. Los Angeles is the defending champion aiming for its third ring in six seasons, against three teams with much less of a postseason resume. The Blue Jays are a perfect 2-0 in the club’s only two World Series appearances, but they last reached the Series in 1993. The Brewers’ lone Series appearance was so long ago (in 1982) that the club was still in the American League, and Milwaukee fell to the Cardinals in a seven-game nail-biter. The Mariners can get a big albatross off their backs just by winning the AL pennant, as Seattle is the only team in Major League Baseball to have never reached a World Series. The ALCS between the Mariners and Blue Jays carries some added historical import since the two teams both joined MLB in 1977. The only previous playoff series between the two expansion cousins took place in 2022, when Seattle swept Toronto in two games in the best-of-three wild card series, and made an epic comeback from an 8-1 run deficit to capture a 10-9 win in Game 2. That crushing loss was part of the 0-6 playoff record the Jays carried during the Vladimir Guerrero Jr. era, before Toronto broke out with a dominant win over the Yankees in this year’s ALDS. Blue Jays hitters erupted for 34 runs and a collective .338/.373/.601 slash line over the four games against New York. While that level of an explosion came as a surprise, Toronto led the league in both batting average and OBP this season, while also finishing near the top of the table in runs and OPS. Seattle’s season-long numbers weren’t quite as impressive, yet the club has been one of baseball’s best offensive teams since Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suarez were acquired at the trade deadline. Led by these two big bats, Julio Rodriguez, Jorge Polanco, and the all-around brilliance of MVP candidate Cal Raleigh, the Mariners’ powerful lineup will provide the Jays’ pitching staff with a huge challenge. In terms of run prevention, the Blue Jays have a significant edge on defense. Toronto had a collective +51 Defensive Runs Saves and +14 Outs Above Average in the regular season, in comparison to Seattle’s +9 DRS and -30 OAA. This could potentially help the Jays counter the Mariners’ deeper rotation, as with Bryan Woo expected to return from injury in the ALCS, all five of the M’s regular starters will be available in some capacity. How exactly those starters will be deployed is still a matter of debate, as George Kirby, Logan Gilbert, and Luis Castillo all had to pitch during Seattle’s 15-inning marathon with the Tigers in Game 5 of the ALDS. The Blue Jays held a 4-2 edge in the season series with the Mariners this year, and have the homefield advantage as the AL’s top seed. That is a significant point for a Jays team that is 56-27 at Rogers Centre during the regular season and playoffs, plus the Mariners’ road record is only 40-43. Turning to the National League, the Brewers and Dodgers each had identical 52-29 home records in the regular season, and Milwaukee was an impressive 45-36 away from home, while the Dodgers were only 41-40 on the road. The other eye-opening statistic is Milwaukee’s perfect 6-0 record in head-to-head play against Los Angeles this season. As daunting as the Dodgers’ star-studded roster may be, the Brewers have had their number in 2025, and will now have to try and do it again in the postseason. L.A. has won the only two prior postseason series between the two franchises, including a seven-game win in the 2018 NLCS. That 2018 season marked the last time the Brew Crew won a playoff series until their five-game win over the Cubs in this year’s NLDS. The series as a whole was a demonstration of the kind of quality pitching and timely hitting that the Brewers have enjoyed all season. A relative lack of power is basically the only flaw for a lineup that posted tremendous numbers, but Andrew Vaughn’s career turn-around since being acquired by the Brewers in June has added a new dimension to the offense. A pair of shaky starts from Freddy Peralta and Quinn Priester at Wrigley Field could be red flags for the Brewers against L.A. Peralta pitched well enough in Game 1 that his Game 4 performance might just be a hiccup, yet if Priester can’t get on track, the Brewers will have to lean even harder on a bullpen that has already logged a lot of innings in the NLDS. Milwaukee is as creative as any team in getting the most out of its pitching staff, so expect plenty of unconventional pitcher usage as the Brewers will try to keep the Dodgers at bay. After a somewhat underwhelming regular season by their high standards, the Dodgers may have flipped the switch for October, sweeping the Reds in the wild card series and then dispatching the Phillies in a four-game NLDS. Even with several stars (Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and an injury-diminished Will Smith) yet to get rolling at the plate, the Dodgers have been aided by a red-hot Mookie Betts and contributions from up and down their seasoned lineup. Roki Sasaki’s emergence as the club’s seeming first choice at closer has been huge for Los Angeles, and perhaps addresses the team’s biggest weakness. If Sasaki is now a high-leverage option late in games and the excellent L.A. starting rotation remains in form, the Brewers have a pretty narrow window to strike against the rest of the struggling Dodger bullpen. 12. http://blogs.fangraphs.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/javy-baez-strikeout.jpgNathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images And just like that, the postseason field is down to four teams. Tonight, the Blue Jays host the Mariners for Game 1 of the ALCS; tomorrow, the NLCS between the Brewers and Dodgers gets underway in Milwaukee. Two of those four clubs advanced to the CS in ridiculous fashion. First, on Thursday, Los Angeles walked off the Phillies in Game 4 of the NLDS when, with the bases loaded and two outs, Orion Kerkering panicked after recovering a deflected comebacker and airmailed his throw home instead of tossing to first for the sure out. In his recap of the game, Ben Clemens dubbed the play “Orion’s Melt.” Then, on Friday night, the Mariners and Tigers played 15 innings of baseball before Jorge Polanco ripped a walk-off single into right field. As always, we’re writing about everything going on during the postseason. You can find Davy Andrews’ recap of Milwaukee’s Game 5 win over the Cubs from last night here. Later today, Dan Szymborski is previewing the ALCS, then Jay Jaffe will have Game 1 covered for you tonight. Before we get to this week’s mailbag, I’d like to remind you all of a quick programming note. We’re still doing our weekly mailbag during the postseason, but like today, we might move around the specific day it runs depending on the playoff schedule. Our plan is to do one before every postseason round. Also, this mailbag is exclusive to FanGraphs Members. If you aren’t yet a Member and would like to keep reading, you can sign up for a Membership here. It’s the best way to both experience the site and support our staff, and it comes with a bunch of other great benefits. Also, if you’d like to ask a question for an upcoming mailbag, send me an email at mailbag@fangraphs.com. __ Hi, I’ve got a mailbag question, a two-parter, and I think it’s a doozy: This year, the Rockies became just the 12th team since 1901 to allow 1,000 runs in a season. Most of them came in super high offensive eras (the 1930s and late 1990s, only one from Deadball era). Is this the worst team pitching performance of all time? The second part: The record is the 1930 Phillies. Nearly 1,200 runs. They lost 102 games. They also had essentially three 5-WAR players (rounding up a bit on one). How rare/weird is that? Thanks, Mike Ferrin This is such a fun question, because there are so many ways to think about the worst pitching performance across eras at the team-wide level. Should we look at ERA to evaluate these pitching staffs, or do we use FIP to try and account for the outcomes these pitchers had the most control over? Should we just use RA/9? ERA is the most widely used metric of the three, so for the sake of convenience, I’ll use ERA- today, just to adjust for park factors and offensive environment. Based on this criteria, out of the 12 clubs to allow at least 1,000 runs in a season, the worst pitching staff by ERA- is the 1911 Boston National League franchise (then known as the Rustlers, later the Braves), the lone Deadball era team in the set. Their ERA- was 142, meaning their entire pitching staff was 42% worse than league average. That’s the third-worst mark in AL/NL history, behind the 1915 Philadelphia Athletics (148 ERA-, 889 runs) and the 1904 Washington Senators (143 ERA-, 743 runs). The most notable thing about the 1911 Rustlers is that they were the final team Cy Young pitched for in his 22-year career. He was released by the Cleveland Naps on August 16 of that year, and then signed with Boston three days later. He pitched 11 games and 80 innings over the final seven weeks of the season, going 4-5 with a 3.71 ERA (104 ERA-). Boston finished 1911 with a record of 44-107-5, meaning that Young accounted for one out of every 11 wins for the team. The 1915 Athletics were notable in that they were the team that immediately followed Connie Mack selling off his $100,000 infield as well as future Hall of Fame pitchers Eddie Plank, Charles Bender, and Herb Pennock. In 1914, Philadelphia was swept by the Boston Braves in the World Series (what a difference a few years can make); in 1915, the A’s went 43-109-2. There’s nothing all that interesting about the 1904 Senators, except that they went 38-113-6. Remarkably, by ERA-, the 2025 Rockies and their 125 mark rank as the 50th-worst pitching team of all time. That’s still terrible, but it falls out of the worst-ever conversation. Of course, park adjustments play a role here. Colorado’s ERA in 2025 was 5.99, the ninth-highest mark ever. But by ERA-, the Rockies didn’t even have the worst pitching staff in 2025; the Nationals finished this season with a 127 ERA-, making theirs the 32nd-worst staff ever. Washington’s ERA was more than a half-run lower than Colorado’s. The two worst team pitching performances of the 21st century, by ERA-, are the 2023 Athletics and 2021 Orioles, each at 133. You were right to ask about the offensive environments of the 1930s. The 1930 Phillies finished with a 6.71 ERA, by far the highest in AL/NL history since the start of the 20th century, but because of the ridiculous scoring going on at the time, they were only 22% worse than league average. Everything is relative in this discussion. Regarding your second question, using our version of WAR, the 1930 Phillies had just one 5-WAR player, Chuck Klein (6.5). Using Baseball Reference’s version, as you mentioned, the team had two(ish) others: pitcher Phil Collins (5.3 bWAR, 3.2 fWAR) and outfielder Lefty O’Doul (4.7 bWAR, 4.3 fWAR). By our version of WAR, the only team that allowed more than 1,000 runs in a season while featuring multiple 5-WAR players was the 1929 Phillies. That year, O’Doul put up 7.4 WAR, and Klein finished with 5.2 WAR. The 1929 Phillies were a much better team than the 1930 club, finishing 71-82-1. So how rare/weird is that? Very. __ Hi FanGraphs Mailbag, If you had a player whose only fatal flaw (for example) was constantly swinging at sweepers out of the zone, how long do you think it would take for them to learn to lay off the pitch if you parked them in front of a Trajeckt that was set to mimic nasty major league sweepers? 100 reps a day for an offseason? 200? People often cite “mastery” of a skill at 10,000 reps/hours (questionable but useful for this example), but that generally takes the skill from a baseline of “brand new” to “expert.” Major league hitters can generally be accounted to already be masters of hitting, so the process should be faster. Asking because I love watching a disciplined hitter force a pitcher to work in the zone, and learning to lay off that sweeper is going to become a valuable skill with the ABS challenge system in place next year. Love the mailbag, Muenstertruck Michael Baumann: A huge chunk of the reps I’ve gotten as a baseball observer have come watching a team that hit Ryan Howard and Pat Burrell back-to-back in the order. Therefore, “How long would it take a hitter to learn to lay off spin in the dirt if that’s all he saw for eight hours a day?” is probably in the 99th percentile of baseball questions I’ve encountered, in terms of the time spent ruminating on the issue. And based on that experience, I think the answer to your question is “never.” Or at least, it’d take longer than 6,000 game reps, which is about what both Howard and Burrell got in the majors. Maybe the fancy video pitching machines and high-speed cameras are so advanced there’s something to be gained. But as far back as, like, 2002 people were calling in to WIP saying the Phillies should give Pat the Bat the Ludovico Treatment from A Clockwork Orange until he learned to lay off the low breaking ball. If it were that simple, they’d already have done it. Practice is important, obviously, but there’s a limit to how much simulated spin you can teach when the problem is differentiating pitch type and location in real-world conditions. To some extent, you either have that tool or you don’t. __ This question is probably asked a lot, but amidst the great enthusiasm and fun trivia generated by 30/30 seasons (and 40/40, and 50/50), I think we need to pause and recognize that one of the 30 (HR) is a lot more valuable than the other 30 (SB). So why is it so fascinating to place them on one-to-one terms, I wonder? And is there a more sabermetric way to view this? Thanks, Kyle Davy Andrews: Hi Kyle! You are right. According to our seasonal constants, hitting 30 home runs this season was worth 61 runs, while stealing 30 bases was worth six runs. They’re in different galaxies. But they’re also bright and shiny! They’re exciting plays. They’re big round numbers. They’re at least a little bit in opposition (as home run hitters tend to be bigger and slower than basestealers). It’s a rare feat that takes a rare athlete, and regardless of value, it’s a genuinely impressive accomplishment. One of the true pleasures of sports is the opportunity to witness greatness. Numbers, especially round numbers, give us more opportunities to recognize greatness when we see it. Now that I’ve accepted your premise and answered your first question, I’m going to argue with you a bit. Although homers are more than 10 times as valuable as steals, I would remind you that these days, 30-steal seasons are much more rare – and therefore, one might argue, more impressive – than 30-homer seasons. This season, 33 players had 30-homer seasons, while 21 stole 30 bases. This wasn’t always the case. Our leaderboard contains 1,563 separate 30-homer seasons and 2,144 30-steal seasons. Still, in this day and age, even after the rule changes that made it easier to steal bases, stealing 30 bases is a more novel accomplishment, and that makes the sabermetric angle trickier than you might think. Let me show you what I mean. For each season, I looked up the average number of home runs per qualified batter, then I normalized home run totals to that level. For example, this season, the average qualified batter hit just 22 home runs, so José Ramírez, who hit 30 homers, hit 37% more than average. Then I did the same thing with stolen bases. The average qualified batter stole 12.5 bases. In order to have the equivalent of a 30-homer season, they’d need just over 17 stolen bases. I think you can see the problem here: The stolen base threshold just dropped in a big way. All we did was make it a lot easier to achieve a 30/30 season, which is not what we were going for. We have ways to calculate base-stealing value, but are we really capable of getting ourselves excited about 30/3 seasons, in which a player hits 30 homers and puts up three runs of base-stealing value? It might just be better to enjoy our shiny, dumb 30/30 seasons. __ Malcolm Newell posted this stat: Source View the full article

  14. Welcome to Today in Books, our daily round-up of literary headlines at the intersection of politics, culture, media, and more. Here are the biggest headlines from last week. And the Nobel Prize in Literature Goes To… Laszlo Krasznahorkai. “Who?” you ask. Krasznahorkai is a Hungarian writer known for writing dark, apocalyptic novels in a style that features, for instance, only one period and long run-on sentences. He’s a winner of the Man Booker International Prize and Susan Sontag called him a “master of the apocalypse.” His most recent novel translated to English is Herscht 07769. As the New York Times announcement points out, the Nobel in Literature doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to awarding the prize to writers who aren’t white men, and I’m hard pressed to feel anything about this year’s winner. Maybe it’s because I’ve never read Krasznahorkai and have bad memories of slogging through the run-on novel that is Ulysses (also critically acclaimed) and feel no inclination whatsoever to read hyper-stylized novels, but this news is feeling very “Go girl give us nothing.” What Books Do Readers Find Most Confusing? The National Book Awards Finalists are Here And we have our National Book Awards finalists! The National Book Foundation announced the shortlist yesterday and boy was I surprised to discover that Han Kang’s We Do Not Part fell off the Translated Literature list. I was also pretty confident Angela Flournoy’s The Wilderness would make the Fiction cut. Still, I was jazzed to see One Day, Everyone Will Have Always Been Against This by Omar El Akkad make it through in Nonfiction, as well as some of my anticipated reads in Fiction, like The Antidote by Karen Russell, which I’m planning to pick up after I read The Wilderness, and Palaver by Bryan Washington, which isn’t out yet. It’s been fascinating to watch the awards lists roll in and clock which books make some lists but not others, and which books get all the critical acclaim, making multiple lists. Anticipate an analysis once awards season winds down! In the meantime, you can find the full list of NBA finalists here and the winners will be announced November 19th. The Kirkus Prize Winners I have been overwhelmed by awards season announcements and almost missed out on the Kirkus Prize winners. The Kirkus Prize awards a whopping $50,000 to authors of outstanding, Kirkus-starred works in the categories of fiction, nonfiction and young readers’ literature. This year’s winners are: The Slip by Lucas Schaefer (Fiction), King of Kings: The Iranian Revolution: A Story of Hubris, Delusion and Catastrophic Miscalculation by Scott Anderson (Nonfiction), Everybelly by Thao Lam (Young Readers’ Literature). The Slip is a chunky debut novel exploring “issues of race, class, sex, and gender through a wildly inventive group of characters and events,” King of Kings dives into a meaty topic that remains relevant today, and my belly-obsessed toddlers can expect to find Lam’s delightful picture book celebrating different body sizes and shapes underneath the Christmas tree this year. Tommy Orange is a 2025 MacArthur Fellow Tommy Orange, you genius, you. The author of the highly-praised and widely-read novels There, There and, most recently, Wandering Stars is one of this year’s 22 MacArthur Fellows, commonly known as the “Genius Grant.” This means he’ll receive an $800,000, no-strings-attached award serving as “an investment in a person’s originality, insight, and potential.” Fellows are chosen based on three criteria: exceptional creativity; promise for important future advances based on a track record of significant accomplishments which could be enabled by the Foundation’s support; and, potential for the Fellowship to facilitate subsequent creative work. Jeff and I discussed Orange’s win for an upcoming Book Riot pod episode, including how he still feels like a relatively fresh writer. That makes sense for this award, which sets out to cultivate impactful talent, and boy has he made an impact in short time. What a deserved win. What are you reading? Let us know in the comments! 15. Willie MacIver has caught a lot of power arms since entering pro ball in 2018. Some were in Sacramento this season — the 28-year-old University of Washington product spent a chunk of the summer with the Athletics, backing up Shea Langeliers — but none of those hurlers stand out as having the best raw stuff he’s been behind the dish for. That distinction belongs to a former Colorado Rockies farmhand whose brief major-league ledger includes a 22.09 ERA and a 22.7% walk rate over five appearances comprising three-and-a-third innings. “I caught a guy named Riley Pint,” said MacIver, citing the right-handed flamethrower whom the Rockies drafted fourth overall in 2016 out of an Overland, Kansas high school. “To this day, he has the best stuff I’ve ever seen. I caught him from Low-A all the way through Triple-A, so I was on the ride with him the whole time.” That ride isn’t necessarily over. Pint is just 27 years old, and while he missed the 2025 season with an injury, the arm is indeed special. MacIver caught him as recently as 2024, and it’s being Pint, and not recent teammate Mason Miller, who he cited speaks volumes. “When we were in Low-A, it was 102 [mph] all over the place,” MacIver told me. “Then he started throwing a sinker. We were at Driveline together and he was throwing sinkers that were registering as left-handed curveballs on the TrackMan. He could make the ball move like nothing else. His sinker would be like negative-eight, and then he would throw a true sweeper that was Morales-like with the horizontal, but at 87 [mph]. Per Statcast, Luis Morales’s sweeper averaged 19.5 inches of horizontal break this season, tied with Will Warren’s for the most in the majors. Morales, who turned 23 in late September, debuted with the A’s in August and is their top-rated pitching prospect. “When he started clicking in Triple-A, we were throwing like 60 percent sweepers,” MacIver said of Pint, who had a 4.12 ERA, a 35.7% strikeout rate, and a 20.5% walk rate with the Albuquerque Isotopes in 2024. “His fastball command was always a problem, so we were going to throw the sweeper all day. But yeah, his metrics were off the charts. The ball was moving so much that he just couldn’t get it in the zone. “I still have hope for him,” added MacIver. “That dude is as talented as any pitcher I’ve ever seen in terms of ability to make any pitch move at an elite level. He’s tall [6-foot-5] and lanky, throws from a funky release point.… I mean, when people ask me about the craziest pitchers I’ve ever caught, Riley Pint is always at the top of that list. If he could find a way to dial things in, he’d be an elite bullpen arm.” If any team could help Pint put things together, it would probably be the one that signed him to a one-year minor-league deal last winter. The Cleveland Guardians have a way of working magic with pitchers, although again, the former top pitching prospect in the Rockies organization landed on the shelf and ended up not taking the mound. Pint will once again be available on the free-agent market. ——— RANDOM HITTER-PITCHER MATCHUPS Michael Young went 10 for 17 against Daisuke Matsuzaka. Ian Kinsler went 10 for 24 against Cliff Lee. Elvis Andrus went 17 for 36 against David Price. Buddy Bell went 21 for 47 against Mike Caldwell. Toby Harrah went 25 for 59 against Vida Blue. ——— Jahmai Jones went from an unproven journeyman to a productive role player for a playoff team. Signed off the scrap heap by the Detroit Tigers last November, the 28-year-old outfielder went on to log a .287/.387/.550 slash line and a 159 wRC+ over 150 plate appearances. The bulk of those numbers came versus opposite-handed hurlers. The righty-swinger slugged all seven of his home runs and put up a 167 wRC+ over 122 PAs with a southpaw standing atop the bump. His track record was truly that of an itinerant. Drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 2015 out of a Peachtree Corners, Georgia high school, Jones proceeded to bounce around organizations — the Tigers are his sixth — never quite finding his footing. Prior to landing in Motown, Jones amassed just 137 big-league PAs and posted a 50 wRC+ while seeing action for four teams over that same number of seasons. “I think this has always been in there,” Jones said of his breakthrough. “I’ve made some small adjustments over the last couple of years that have paid some really big dividends. Not trying to do too much at the plate has also allowed me to be who I am as a hitter.” Asked to elaborate on the adjustments, Jones explained that he tweaked his stance and load, making him more balanced in the box. Feeling that he had “gotten a little stagnant,” he “kind of got back to just being an athlete in the box.” There was a mental component to his long-awaited success, as well. “As much as you make the small physical changes, the mental changes are just as important,” Jones told me.”They’ve allowed me to calm down and, again, not try to do too much. I just try to pass it on to the guys behind me. They’ll get the job done when I’m on base, whether it’s a single, a walk, slug — whatever it might be. “I also got older,” Jones added. “More games played.. Seeing more pitches. Over the years, you just mature a little bit in your approach. I understand who I am better than I did when I was 23-24 years old. I understand what works for me. I’m not living and dying by every single AB.” —— Dave Burba wasn’t much of a hitter. The now-59-year-old right-hander slashed just .134/.184/.186 over 228 career plate appearances. But while he recorded just 26 base hits, three of them left the yard. Moreover, the first two came in back-to-back starts he made for the Cincinnati Reds in 1996. Now a pitching coach in the Athletics system, he told me about those dingers earlier this summer. “The first one, I actually thought it was a foul ball,” Burba recalled of his solo shot off of Pirates righty Paul Wagner. “I looked up, saw [Orlando] Merced going back and then it was, ‘No way; I just hit a home run.’ I ran around the bases. “Very next game I started, we played Pittsburgh again. A reliever [lefty Chris Peters] came in and I hit the ball out. When I got back to the dugout, Eric Davis pulled me over. He was ribbing me. He said, ‘Son, if you’re going to hit home runs, you’ve got to learn to run the bases. You need a home run trot.’ I told him I didn’t think so. I said, ‘When you hit ‘em it’s ‘How far did it go?’ When I hit ‘em, I’m saying, ‘Where did it go?” ——— A quiz: Three pitchers have won 200 or more games with the Dodgers. Clayton Kershaw is one of them. Who are the other two? ——— NEWS NOTES The San Diego Padres announced this week that they have signed 18-year-old Taiwanese pitcher Lan-Hong Su. The right-hander served as the closer for Chinese Taipei in last month’s 18U Baseball World Cup in Okinawa, Japan. Javik Blake is the recipient of this year’s Future Star Award, which recognizes Minor League Baseball’s top executive who is 25 or younger. The 2023 Elon University graduate is the media relations manager and play-by-play broadcaster for the Biloxi Shuckers, the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. Mike Greenwell, a left-handed-hitting left fielder who spent his entire career with the Boston Red Sox, lost his life to cancer this past week at age 62. Twice an All-Star, “Gator” logged 1,400 hits, a .303 batting average, and a 120 wRC+ from 1985-1996. ——— The answer to the quiz is Don Sutton (233 wins) and Don Drysdale (209). Kershaw will finish his career with 223. ——— A random obscure former player snapshot: Dana Kiecker had a solid season as a 29-year-old rookie for the Boston Red Sox in 1990. A right-hander born in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, Kiecker won eight games while putting up a 3.97 ERA and a 3.43 FIP over 152 innings. Moreover, he proceeded to perform well in his lone playoff start. Facing the Oakland A’s in Game 2 of the ALCS, he allowed just one run over five-and-two-thirds frames. His future looked promising. Unfortunately for the St. Cloud State University product, his elbow didn’t cooperate. Kiecker ended up throwing just 40-and-a-third innings with the Red Sox in 1991, logging an unbecoming 7.36 ERA. Surgery was required, and his arm never fully recovered. Kiecker was just 30 years old when he threw his last professional pitch. ——— FOREIGN AFFAIRS The KBO postseason got underway this weekend with the Samsung Lions and SSG Landers splitting a pair of decisions. The winner of the five-game series will play the Hanwha Eagles, who received a first-round bye. The LG Twins automatically advanced to the finals by posting the best record in the regular season. They will play the winner of the Hanwha-Samsung/SSG series The NPB postseason got underway this weekend with a pair of best-of-three sweeps. The Yokohama DeNA BayStars beat the Yomiuri Giants by scores of 6-2 and 7-6, while the Nippon-Ham Fighters bested the Orix Buffaloes 2-0 and 5-4. The Hanshin Tigers and Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks received first-round byes. The BayStars do not have Trevor Bauer on their active roster, making it unlikely that he will pitch in the playoffs. The erstwhile MLB right-hander went 4-10 with a 4.51 ERA for Yokohama in the regular season. Teruaki Sato had a .277/.345/.579 slash line while leading NPB with 40 home runs and a 182 wRC+ (the latter among qualified hitters) this season. Per reports, the 26-year-old Hanshin Tigers third baseman/outfielder has previously expressed a desire to move to MLB , although he is not expected to be posted. Munetaka Murakami, who reportedly will be posted this winter, returned from an injury to log a 210 wRC+ over 224 plate appearances. The 25-year-old Tokyo Yakult Swallows corner infielder slashed .273/.379/.663 with 22 home runs. ——— José DeLeón was summoned on short notice to start the Red Sox’ regular-season finale. Home in Puerto Rico when he got the call, the 33-year-old right-hander hopped on an overnight flight, and not only did he arrive in Boston in time to pitch: he pitched his heart out. Facing the Detroit Tigers, DeLeón allowed three runs over six-and-two-thirds innings and was credited with a win. Notably, it was his first in the big leagues since 2019, and just his fifth overall. The first had come with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016, at which time he was one of the game’s more promising young pitchers. Unfortunately for DeLeón, a litany of injuries — a torn UCL among them — have highjacked his career. Counting his time in the minors, he has thrown fewer than 300 innings over the past nine seasons, 75-and-a-third of them with Triple-A Worcester this season. Many were tumultuous. His ERA with Boston’s top farm club was 6.93, and all of his decisions were in the loss column. I’d featured DeLeón here at FanGraphs in a 2015 Sunday Notes column, so a question seemed in order when he met with the media following last month’s Fenway Park cameo: How he would he describe his career since we first spoke 10 years ago? His answer was pure gold. “I’ve had a couple bumps in the road,” DeLeón said. “I think that’s my story. If my story can serve as motivation for somebody… if kids are dealing with something, they’re struggling, things aren’t going their way, what I did today can help them understand that there is light at the end of the tunnel.” ——— LINKS YOU’LL LIKE The Athletic’s Matt Gelb wrote about how the Philadelphia Phillies shared the pain after Orion Kerkering’s error led to a crushing elimination loss. A contact hitter, Beckert finished his career with a .283 batting average, a 4.7% walk rate, and a 4.4% strikeout rate. His .342 average in 1971 was third-best in the senior circuit, behind only Joe Torre (.363) and Ralph “Roadrunner” Garr (.343). He was awarded a Gold Glove in 1968. Also born on today’s date was Phil Weintraub, a first baseman/outfielder who saw action in 444 games while playing for three teams across the 1933-1945 season. A career .295 hitter with a 133 wRC+, the Loyola University product laid waste to Brooklyn Dodgers pitching on April 30, 1944. In a 26-8 New York Giants win, Weintraub had two doubles, a triple, a home run, five runs scored, and 11 RBIs. Source View the full article

  22. Photo Credit: BET+ Fans tuning in for the latest Zatima Season 4 episode this week, on October 16, might be surprised to find no new installment on BET+. While the wait may feel long for fans eager to see what’s next for Zac and Fatima, the pause gives everyone time to catch up on the emotional highs and shocking twists. So stay tuned for what promises to be an even more explosive continuation of the story. Here’s everything you need to know. Why Zatima Season 4 will not air a new episode on October 16 The reason why Zatima Season 4 will not air a new episode is simple: no new episode is scheduled for October 16 under the current release plan, as the show has entered a brief mid-season break. It’s all because Part 1 has already wrapped up on October 9, and Part 2 will arrive soon. Zatima Season 4 officially debuted on September 11, 2025. The series continues to follow the established format of Seasons 2 and 3, so the creators have split Season 4 into two segments. Notably, the team has already released Part 1, completing its 10-episode run, which viewers can currently access. In contrast, the network has yet to air Part 2 of Season 4. However, the specific release date and time remain unconfirmed. The ongoing mid-season break caused the absence of a new Zatima Season 4 episode on October 16. As a result, no episode aired on that date. The first segment of the season, referred to as Part A, has wrapped up. Meanwhile, Part B is still pending release. Viewers might anticipate the release of Season 4 Part 2 around December 2025. This estimate is based on an analysis of the release patterns from the previous seasons. Zatima is a spin-off of Tyler Perry’s cherished series “Sistas.” In episode 10, titled “Through the Fire,” we witness Deja nearing the point of exposing her true identity. However, the fire incident at Connie’s apartment introduces custodial complications, captivating viewers with an unexpected twist in the episode. The cast members are Devale Ellis, Jasmin Brown, Crystal Renee, Trinity Whiteside, Lindsay Diann, Nzinga Imani, Remington Hoffman, and many others. Subscribe to BET+ and catch up on all the episodes of Zatiman Season 1-4 streaming now. 24. http://blogs.fangraphs.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/USATSI_27306058.jpgMark Hoffman/Milwaukee Journal Sentinel/USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images The house always wins. In the National League Divisional Series between the Brewers and the Cubs, the home team won every game. Game 5, in which both teams ran out of trusted starters and turned to their bullpens, ended up being the lowest scoring game of the series. The scoring was limited to four solo home runs, and although the Cubs hit 57 more homers than the Brewers during the regular season and two more during this NLDS, the Brewers powered up when it counted. With home runs from William Contreras, Andrew Vaughn, and Brice Turang, they beat the Cubs, 3-1, and will host the Dodgers in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Monday. Just as they’d done during the regular season, the two teams came as close as they possibly could to splitting the series. The Cubs took the regular season series, 7-6, and the Brewers have now taken the Divisional Series, 3-2, leaving the teams tied at nine. The Cubs will return to Chicago and ponder how to improve a roster that now has a massive, Kyle Tucker-shaped hole in the outfield. The Brewers are headed to the Championship Series for the fourth time in franchise history and the first time since 2018, when they lost to the Dodgers. After seven years, they’ll have the chance for revenge. Although bullpen games involve plenty of mixing and matching, the early plans seemed pretty well scripted. Milwaukee came out of the gate with the big guns, hoping Trevor Megill could be the first pitcher of the entire series to hold the Cubs scoreless in the first inning, before Pat Murphy looked to Jacob Misiorowski for four. After that, the Brewers had the rest of their bullpen ready to match up, thanks to an off day on Friday. “The pitching guys, myself and Matt Arnold, we just sat in a room and just talked about the possibilities and considered a ton of factors,” said Murphy in the pregame press conference. “But we settled on Megill. He’s going to pitch tonight, regardless.” The Cubs opened with Drew Pomeranz, then let Colin Rea go through the order one time. “I think both sides are kind of acknowledging that the first inning has been a pretty big inning in this series,” said Craig Counsell before the game. “We went with a guy that’s throwing the ball really well.” After that, they had the option of bringing in starter Shota Imanaga, or mixing and matching with the bullpen. Although Imanaga started warming up in the fourth inning, he never entered the game. In the top of the first, Megill fulfilled his assignment, mowing the Cubs down in order with a four-seamer that touched 98.9 mph. Pomeranz tried the same trick in the bottom of the inning, throwing 23 pitches, 19 of them fastballs. After retiring Jackson Chourio and Turang, his fastball luck ran out. Contreras reached out and smashed Pomeranz’s 17th four-seamer, not at all bothered by its perfect location on the outside corner. He pulled the ball just over the wall in left-center, where Milwaukee bullpen catcher Adam Weisenburger, in full gear, caught it and then raised his arms in triumph: The Brewers had a 1-0 lead, but it wouldn’t last long. In the bottom of the second, Misiorowski followed velocity with even more velocity, replacing Megill’s 99-mph heat with his own gas, which averaged 100.3 mph. It didn’t work out. Seiya Suzuki went with a 101.4 mph four-seamer on the outer half and lifted it into his own bullpen in right-center field. A Cubs pitcher tried to replicate Weisenburger’s feat, raising his hat to catch the homer, but the ball knocked it right out of his hand: It was Suzuki’s first hit against a pitch thrown 100 mph or faster this year, and just the second in his four-year MLB career. The Cubs had tied the game at 1-1, but that was the last run they’d score. Misiorowski settled down, allowing just one baserunner over the next three innings. He finished with four innings pitched, three hits, three strikeouts, and his second win of the series. The Brewers grabbed the lead in the fourth. Rea followed Pomeranz and pitched well, allowing a seeing-eye single to Caleb Durbin in the bottom of the second and pitching around a rare error from Dansby Swanson in the third. Rea retired the first two Brewers he faced in the fourth, but he left a cutter right over the middle of the plate for Vaughn, and he absolutely clobbered it. The ball passed over a leaping Happ, giving the Brewers the 2-1 lead. Vaughn threw up devil horns as he rounded first base: Chicago’s only real threat came in the top of the sixth, when Murphy replaced Misiorowski with lefty Aaron Ashby. It made sense from a platoon standpoint, as the Cubs had the top of their lineup coming to the plate, which included lefties Michael Busch and Tucker. Still, it was a questionable move. Ashby had pitched in three of the first four games, going 4 1/3 innings and allowing four runs, three of them earned. Moreover, the top of the Chicago lineup had already had two chances to get familiar with him. Things immediately went sideways. Busch sent a grounder up the middle for a single, then Ashby hit Nico Hoerner, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Ashby struck out Tucker, and that was the end of his night. Murphy was never going to let him face the right-handed Suzuki, who had already taken him deep in Game 2. Chad Patrick, who had held the Cubs scoreless in his own three appearances in the series, continued his dominance. He retired Suzuki on a deep fly ball, then froze Happ with a perfectly placed cutter on the outside corner for the third out. The Cubs would only reach base once more in the final three innings. Meanwhile, the Brewers were about to add on. Andrew Kittredge came in to get the final out of the sixth inning, and Counsell sent him back out in the seventh, hoping to get four outs from the righty for just the third time all season and the first time since the Fourth of July. It was one out too many. After retiring the first two batters he faced, Kittredge started Turang off with a slider on the outside part of the plate. Turang unleashed a remarkably smoth swing, and although the ball was ticketed for the deepest part of the park, everyone in the building knew it was gone off the bat. Turang held his follow-through and Kittredge swung around to watch the ball. For one beautiful moment, both players had their right arms raised and their heads thrown back as they followed the ball: http://blogs.fangraphs.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Turang-Kittredge-Arm-Raised-Home-Run.png Four hundred feet away, Pete Crow-Armstrong made a wild leap at the fence, but the ball bounced off the back wall a good 20 feet in the air. The Brewers had tacked on an all-important insurance run, leading by more than one run for the first time since the fourth inning of Game 2: With a 3-1 lead, Murphy called on Abner Uribe to get the final six outs. After striking out more than 30% of the batters he faced this season, Uribe didn’t strike out a single Cub, but he slammed the door on them anyway. Working extremely quickly, he allowed just one walk to Busch in the eighth inning and needed just 22 pitches to end Chicago’s season. The Cubs finished the game with just four hits and one walk. Aside from Suzuki’s home run, they only got one runner past first base. In a double bullpen game, the bullpens truly were the stars. The two teams combined for just 10 hits. Durbin and Busch were the only players to reach base more than once. In the bulk role, Misiorowski got the win and pitched the longest, but the Brewers got scoreless appearances from Megill, Ashby, Patrick, and Uribe. The Cubs got their own scoreless appearances from Daniel Palencia, Caleb Thielbar, and Brad Keller. With neither team able to manufacture runs, the whole season came down to who could put the ball over the fence. The Brewers’ three two-out homers allowed them to move on. In the NLCS, they’ll be facing a Los Angeles team they swept twice during the regular season. If they’re going take a third series off the Dodgers, they’re sure to need even more zeroes from the bullpen. Source View the full article
  25. As Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey conducts his first managerial search, John Shea of the San Francisco Standard reports that he’s spoken to an intriguing name: former Orioles manager Brandon Hyde. Shea does not clarify whether or not the conversation was part of Posey’s search for a new manager or even if either side has clear interest in Hyde taking over for Bob Melvin in San Francisco, but the conversation between the two is noteworthy nonetheless. After all, Hyde would make plenty of sense as a manager for the Giants. Like Melvin before him, Hyde is a Bay Area native who has had success managing a small market team in the past. Ignoring a one-game stint as manager of the Marlins back in 2011, Hyde’s time in the manager’s chair has been spent entirely in Baltimore. He managed the club from 2019 until he was fired back in May, and in doing so led the club through a lengthy rebuild, exceeded all expectations with a surprisingly competitive 2022 season, and then build on that success to deliver a 101-win campaign to Baltimore in 2023 en route to an AL Manager of the Year award. Hyde’s 421-492 record with the Orioles leaves much to be desired, though it must be viewed through the lens of a club that had no intentions of competing during the first three seasons he spent in the organization. The early-season disaster the Orioles suffered under Hyde this year is an undeniable blemish that can’t be excused as the trials of managing a rebuilding club, but he’s nonetheless well-respected around the game. Former Rockies manager Bud Black told USA Today’s Bob Nightengale last month that he believes Hyde will be managing again “soon,” and for his part Hyde indicated to Nightengale that he does hope to return to the dugout as soon as next season. Perhaps that opportunity could come with the Giants, his hometown team. Of course, while there’s a plausible fit between Hyde and the Giants that doesn’t mean that he’ll be hired or even necessarily interview for the position. Shea notes that Rangers special assistant (and former Giants catcher) Nick Hundley is “fast becoming the popular choice” to replace Melvin and highlights his strong relationship with Posey, who he served as the backup for during his time as a player in San Francisco. Brittany Ghiroli of The Athletic takes things a step forward and reports that Hundley is “considered the favorite” for the job in San Francisco, before adding that he’s not believed to be considering any managerial opportunities besides the Giants’ vacancy. Hundley has been a known candidate for the job for some time now, and has already interviewed for the role, but the fact that he’s considered the favorite is new information. Former All-Star catcher Kurt Suzuki and Guardians associate manager Craig Albernaz are both known to be candidates for the role in San Francisco as well. View the full article
  26. The Dodgers don’t yet know whether they’ll be heading to Milwaukee to face the Brewers or welcoming the Cubs into Dodger Stadium for Monday’s series opener of the NLCS, but that’s not stopping them from making plans for the series. In particular, manager Dave Roberts told reporters (including MLB.com’s Sonja Chen) this afternoon that he expects the club to carry at least one more pitcher on their roster for the upcoming series after carrying 11 (plus Shohei Ohtani) in the NLDS against the Phillies. That will consequently mean shortening up a bench that was six players deep during this past series. Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register suggests that utility man Hyeseong Kim and outfielder Justin Dean are the most likely candidates to be left off the NLCS roster. Kim, 26, has a wRC+ of 95 in 71 regular seasons games this year in his rookie campaign after signing with the Dodgers out of South Korea during the offseason. He’s primarily played second base this year but has also made cameos at shortstop and in center field. Dean, meanwhile, has just two plate appearances in the majors this year as he’s been used almost exclusively as a pinch runner by Los Angeles. He does have a stolen base this postseason, however, while Kim has made just appearance so far across L.A.’s two series. Alex Call, Ben Rortvedt, and Miguel Rojas have all drawn starts in the playoffs already and seem likely to once again be parts of the bench mix headed into the NLCS. Dalton Rushing has seen virtually no playing time so far, but might be needed insurance for the Dodgers at the catcher position given that Will Smith is playing through a hairline fracture in his throwing hand. Keeping Rushing on the roster would mean that the Dodgers will have two catchers available even if Smith needs a game or two off at some point to manage the injury. Without a three-catcher setup, a day or two off for Smith would likely necessitate a placement on the injured list, which would then make him unavailable for the World Series if the Dodgers were to advance. One player that definitely won’t be removed from the roster, it seems, is utility man Enrique Hernandez. Hernandez has served as the club’s starting left fielder this postseason and, while he’s known to have been nursing a day-to-day back injury since the Wild Card series against Cincinnati, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic relays that Hernandez is doing fine in spite of that injury and that the days off between the end of the NLDS and the start of the NLCS should help him get healthy. Hernandez has long been excellent in the postseason and that hasn’t changed this year, with a .318/.400/.409 slash line (132 wRC+) across 25 plate appearances. Turning back to the rotation, Roberts indicated to reporters (including Chen) that despite both Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto needing extra rest built in between their starts, he does not anticipate the Dodgers needing more than four starters for their upcoming seven game set. That quartet figures to be the aforementioned duo of Ohtani and Yamamoto, plus Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow. Clayton Kershaw and Emmet Sheehan have both been available to provide length out of the bullpen so far, and headed into the NLCS it’s possible someone like Ben Casparius or Andrew Heaney is added to the playoff roster to give the team another long relief option.
