Absolute Batman #13 has revealed a fan-favorite character to be the leader of the outlaw collective, the Red Hood gang. In contrast to the character’s iconic look from the mainline DC universe, they have a completely new look in the Absolute Universe and bring a new twist to the Red Hood gang. Absolute Batman #13 introduces Harley Quinn with a twist In a shocking twist, in Absolute Batman #13, the Clown Princess of Crime, Harley Quinn, is revealed to be the leader of the Red Hood gang. The gang is often associated more with Jason Todd, who takes up the mantle of the Red Hood, and also the Joker. Departing from her signature look, this version of Harley sports a shaved head, diamond tattoos around her eyes and hands, and a checkered tattoo running down her neck. In contrast to her usually unconventional and eye-catching fashion choices in other representations, Absolute Harley has a casual look. She wears short pants paired with what seems to be a white shirt and a black vest. Furthermore, she also wears an oversized red hoodie, red sneakers, and checkered socks. Her weapon of choice in her appearance is a pair of nunchucks. The revelation comes when Batman and Selina get into a fight with members of the Red Hood Gang, and suddenly, the Bane Venom inside Batman’s body activates. Batman manages to calm things down by revealing his plan. He explains his plans to destroy Bane, Ark M, and his words seem to capture the leader’s attention, leading to Harley’s reveal. While Harley seems to be commanding the Red Hood, it’s important to note that Jason Todd and other Robins are expected to appear later in the series. Scott Snyder continues to write the story of the Absolute Batman series, alongside art by Nick Dragotta. Originally reported by Harsha Panduranga on SuperHeroHype. From #1 New York Times, USA Today, and internationally bestselling author Freida McFadden... It's late, and there's someone outside your door. She needs help. She'll kill to get it. In the middle of a storm, a girl appears on Casey's doorstep, obviously in need of help. She's young. She's alone. She's desperate. The girl is clearly running from something, but she won't say what. When Casey tries to learn more, she gets hostile. When Casey discovers disturbing diary entries and drawings in her meager backpack, she gets violent. This will be the longest night of Casey's life. This week’s batch of bestsellers has quite a few new releases, which is a nice change. The biggest book of the moment is 107 Days by Kamala Harris, which is in the top ten of all five of the biggest bestseller lists. It is the “story of one of the wildest and most consequential presidential campaigns in American history.” One book you won’t see here that’s worth mentioning is The Court of the Dead: A Nico di Angelo Adventure by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro. This is the newest book in the “World of Percy Jackson” and is a big seller, but because most outlets divide children’s books onto their own lists, it hasn’t made it onto this roundup. This list continues to lack of diversity on many levels, including being disproportionately by white authors. Some Indie Bestsellers you should know about are The Loneliness of Sonia and Sunny by Kiran Desai, Katabasis by R. F. Kuang, and All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks. To get these numbers, we look at the New York Times, both Combined Print & E-Book Fiction and Combined Print & E-Book Nonfiction lists; Amazon Charts, both Fiction and Nonfiction; Publishers Weekly; USA Today; and Indie Bestsellers, Fiction and Nonfiction, both Paperback and Hardcover. Books On All Five Bestseller Lists: 107 Days by Kamala Harris The Secret of Secrets by Dan Brown Books On Four Bestseller Lists: Poems & Prayers by Matthew McConaughey (Publishers Weekly, NYT, Amazon, Indie Bestsellers) Alchemised by SenLinYu (Publishers Weekly, USA Today, NYT, Indie Bestsellers) Tourist Season by Brynne Weaver (Publishers Weekly, USA Today, NYT, Indie Bestsellers) Books On Three Bestseller Lists: The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins (Publishers Weekly, Amazon, Indie Bestsellers) Awake: A Memoir by Jen Hatmaker (Publishers Weekly, NYT, Indie Bestsellers) The Academy by Elin Hilderbrand and Shelby Cunningham (NYT, Amazon, Indie Bestsellers) One Dark Window (Deluxe Limited Hardcover Edition) by Rachel Gillig (Publishers Weekly, USA Today, NYT) Go beyond the bestseller lists with made-for-you book recommendations from TBR, our book recommendation service! Photo Credit: BET+ Zatima is a 2022 spin-off drama series created by Tyler Perry. It follows the ups and downs of Zac Taylor and Fatima Wilson-Taylor’s relationship. Season 4 of the show recently came out, and fans are already waiting for a Season 5 confirmation. Let’s take a look at the details about the future of the show and whether Zatima Season 4 has ended. Is Zatima Season 4 over after episode 10? No, Season 4 of Tyler Perry’s Zatima is not over yet. Ten episodes of the BET+ drama series are out now, and viewers eagerly await the release of the next episode. However, following the same pattern as Season 2 and 3, Season 4 will also be divided into two parts — Season 4A and 4B. The first part of Season 4 contains 10 episodes and is already out. The second part will however not immediately come out next week. Hence, fans will have to wait a little longer before diving back into the drama between Zac and Fatima. When will Zatima Season 4B get its release date? The release date of Zatima Season 4B has not yet been confirmed. Although, past season release patterns imply that it can come out anytime within two to four months from the Season 4A finale. Season 2A ran until April 13, 2023, with Season 2B commencing on August 24, 2023. Similarly, Season 3A ran until October 31, 2024, with Season 3B coming out on December 26, 2024. Hence, viewers could expect Season 4B to come out around the December 2025 or January 2026 mark. Zatima is a spin-off of Tyler Perry’s Sistas, focusing on Zac Taylor and Fatima Wilson-Taylor’s relationship as they try to build their life together. The cast includes Devale Ellis as Zac Taylor, Crystal Renee Hayslett as Fatima Wilson-Taylor, Nzinga Imani as Angela and Remington Hoffman as Bryce, among many others. Photo Credit: Netflix Fans have been speculating whether Boots will return for a Season 2 following delays and uncertainty surrounding its production. Rumors about the show’s possible cancellation began circulating after the extended gap between filming and release. However, recent updates suggest that Boots Season 2 might finally be moving forward, putting those concerns to rest. Is Netflix’s Boots canceled or renewed for Season 2? While Netflix hasn’t officially renewed Boots yet and its viewership may influence the decision, behind-the-scenes developments suggest that plans for Season 2 are already in motion. Sony Pictures Television has renewed contracts for several key cast members ahead of Boots’ October 9 premiere on Netflix. The entertainment company extended the contracts of Miles Heizer, Liam Oh, Kieron Moore, Dominic Goodman, Angus O’Brien, Blake Burt, and Rico Paris. However, the team does not expect some cast members to return for Season 2. Creative decisions related to the show’s potential new storylines are likely driving these changes. Vera Farmiga, a household name known for The Conjuring franchise, originally had a one-year deal with no renewal option. Reports suggest that Sony may extend her contract as the creative team explores possibilities for her character in Season 2. The studio’s proactive step in securing the main cast reflects its confidence in the show. This significantly boosts the likelihood of a renewal. Boots marks the final television project from legendary producer Norman Lear. Netflix approved the series in April 2023 but delayed its release to October 2025. This came following the Hollywood strikes and other production setbacks, despite filming wrapping in 2024. The show is a Netflix adaptation of Greg Cope White’s book The Pink Marine and follows Cameron Cope (Miles Heizer) and his straight best friend Ray McAffey (Liam Oh) as they join a diverse group of recruits in a 1990 U.S. Marine Corps boot camp. Set in a time when being gay was considered illegal in the military, the story explores both literal and emotional boot camp challenges. It especially highlights friendship, identity, and resilience. Season 1 stars Miles Heizer, Liam Oh, Max Parker, Ana Ayora, Cedric Cooper, and Nicholas Logan in prominent roles. Have you ever gone into a bookstore and found a display of books wrapped in paper? Sometimes they’ll have some writing on them with clues to the book inside, like, “spicy Halloween romance.” They may even add doodles or other decorations. I’ve always found these cute, and it’s a fun way to add a surprise read to your TBR. Little did I know, this concept has blown up on Etsy, and they look very different from the brown paper-wrapped books I’m used to. Now, you can get a surprise book bundle with new or used books in every genre or theme you can think of. And I say bundle deliberately, because it’s not just a book. The most plain version of these surprise book bundles comes beautifully decorated with themed stickers and other decorations, but more often, they also come with matching accessories: bookmarks, annotation supplies, tea, socks, snacks, face masks, mugs, and much more. So, since we’re in October, I’ve gathered together ten of the most intriguing Halloween-themed surprise book bundles. They range in genres, so you can find horror reads, mysteries, seasonal romances, and more. I’ve included options that are just the book (in a beautiful package) as well as boxes with all kinds of matching goodies. Let’s start with the most basic version and get to the more elaborate book boxes at the end. image from ShellsBookshelf on Etsy This Halloween-themed surprise book is available in the genres Cozy Fall Romance, Horror, or Halloween Romance, and you can also choose your tea flavor! $22 image from SGVinylTouches on Etsy Horror and thriller fans will love this option, which also lets you choose from used or new and hardcover or paperback. $15-26 image from NovelPairings on Etsy This option includes a big range of genres to choose from, and you can also share the link to your Goodreads page to make sure you don’t get a book you’ve already read. $31 image from LetterBoxXO on Etsy This version has the largest list of genres available that I’ve seen—though some are less Halloween-themed than others. You can also choose from coffee, tea, or hot chocolate as your accompanying drink. $13 image from JustVibesNoPlot on Etsy I like the different takes on Halloween-relevant genres available here, from Dark Academia to Witchy to YA Mystery to Gothic Horror and more. You can also choose from the Book Only, Basic, or Deluxe versions. $20-40 image from FoxAndThistleCreates on Etsy How gorgeous is the decoration on this vampires and witches surprise book? It even uses a wax seal. $20-25 image from PrinceApothecary on Etsy Now we’re getting into the more elaborate book bundles, like this Halloween book box that includes stickers, bookmarks, a face mask, a mug, snacks, and more. Or, you can go for the basic book version. $25-88 image from BookmarkedBlissCo on Etsy This surprise Halloween book box is available in a range of genres, some more Halloween-relevant than others. (Though maybe there’s a whole subsubgenre of Halloween cowboy romances I don’t know about.) The box includes “themed bookmarks, cozy socks, hot drinks, self-care items, and custom Halloween extras like a ghost-shaped face mask, boo-tiful tumbler, and Biscoff cookies.” $22-64 image from BeyondTheTrope on Etsy I like that this Halloween book bundle comes in a bag or a box! (Or you can choose just the book.) It includes stickers, socks, a highlighter, annotation tabs, tea, and more. $27-65 image from FamaCollections on Etsy And finally, we have this Halloween book box available in a range of genres the comes with a mug, candy corn, hand cream, socks, honey, and more. $48+ Can’t get enough Halloween bookish goodies? Science fiction is an attempt to reach into our future, jumping off our coolest, best-researched, or wildest science and technology and diving into all its possibilities. From Jules Verne inventing solar sails in From the Earth to the Moon in 1865 (the first solar sail was used in 2010), to depicting electronic subs a century before they’d first run, to Douglas Adams depicting real-time automatic audio translation in 1980, from warnings about genetic engineering and visions of space travel, science fiction has always been making uncanny predictions about what humans will want from our tech, and where it could take us. But have any sci-fi novels correctly predicted 2025? We should be grateful that some didn’t get 2025 quite right. Plenty of films depict 2025 as a post-apocalyptic hellscape (and we’re not quite there yet). Power Rangers S.P.D. thought we’d already be coexisting with aliens. All of the books below had predictions for what we’d be dealing with in 2025—and some were more prescient than others. Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler (1993) This one shook a lot of readers earlier this year. Butler is considered a sci-fi visionary for a reason. She used her knowledge of history, social trends, and political cycles to hone this one to a perfect prediction. Parable of the Sower is about a young woman who becomes a leader in the midst of violence and climate change disaster, and it features unprecedented wildfires in Los Angeles and California in early 2025. They take place amidst the rule of a populist president (whose slogan is “Make America Great Again”) who draws his power from sowing fear, and in a United States seeped in wealth inequality…which also felt on point for 2025. For more insights into her foresight, check out A Few Rules For Predicting The Future, released in pocket format earlier this year. Reincarnation love stories are probably the most romantic romances out there. There’s something about the “I will find you in every lifetime” refrain that I find beautiful. I can fully understand why some people would think of it as a threat! But I know others of you are hopeless romantics like I am. A love that transcends death is as powerful an idea as I can conjure. For a reincarnation romance to work, the author must find a unique angle on the concept. Reincarnation, of course, is a meaningful feature of many religions, and some books build on those faith-based ideas. These stories tackle old stories and put them in new contexts. Some can bring queer people into the narrative openly; others juxtapose ancient concepts with contemporary characters. With infinite lives, there are infinite stories to tell. Other authors use reincarnation as a fantastical literary device, not unlike immortality. Essentially, reincarnation can be written as a kind of superpower, separate from any particular religious belief. Reincarnated people can have a huge accumulation of knowledge, plus the bravery that comes from not fearing death. These traits inform how they function differently from us mere mortals. These reincarnation love stories include romance novels as well as romantic reads across genres. For each of the books below, I’ll let you know how they deal with reincarnation, and I’ll wager at least one will catch your fancy in this lifetime. See You in My 19th Life by Lee Hye If you lived seventeen lives without finding your enduring love, you probably wouldn’t be too optimistic for life number eighteen. This is the case for Juwon Yun. Then she meets Seoha Mun, who changes her mind entirely. Naturally, she has to go and tragically die. Now in her new life as Jieum Ban, she must find her way back to Seoha, who’s pretty broken up about Juwon’s death. This manhwa has moments of lightness alongside true emotional depth. Our Infinite Fates by Laura Steven This book has a fantastic premise. Two people fall in love in every lifetime, but they also kill each other every time. In particular, Evelyn is killed by Arden before her eighteenth birthday. This go around, Evelyn really needs to stay alive so she can donate bone marrow to her little sister. So she’s out to see if she and Arden can do it differently this time. Our Infinite Fates explores whether reincarnation is a curse, and if so, if it can be broken. Hearts of Fire and Snow by David Bowles and Guadalupe García McCall This YA reincarnation romance is rooted in the Aztec origin myth about the paired volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, a tragic love story with a similar star-crossed lovers ending as Romeo and Juliet. Blanca meets new student Greg at school, and she is intrigued by him. There’s a reason for that: he’s been searching for her for a thousand years. Swoon, right?? If they are to make it this time, they will have to confront their long past. Alongside the romance, this story also discusses environmental justice. The Hundred Loves of Juliet by Evelyn Skye Speaking of Romeo and Juliet, here is a book that takes the play as its inspiration and tries to find a new ending for our tragic teens. In this version, Sebastian and Helene are grown adults and incarnations of Romeo and Juliet. Will they finally have a happy ending? In addition to the main storyline, we visit these two characters in many of their different incarnations. It has garnered a lot of comparisons to The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, so if you like sweeping, swoony books, pick this one up. Puppy Love by Tsuchida Haru While plenty of these reincarnation romances are here to put you through the wringer, this one is not. What if a dog you rescued was reincarnated as a person? And what if that person still remembered your smell from when they were a puppy and you were a kid? Doesn’t that make you want to cry?? This is a short and sweet manga about learning how to prioritize happiness. And there’s a dog named Cotton Candy. If that doesn’t convince you to read it, I don’t know what will. The Emperor and the Endless Palace by Justinian Huang Okay, I am cheating a little bit because this book is not a proper romance by genre standards, but it is romance-adjacent, it’s about reincarnation, and this is my list. This novel chronicles the lives of two men whose fates are intertwined over millennia of reincarnation. The story focuses on three of their meetings: one in the year 4 BCE, one in 1740, and one in modern-day Los Angeles. At its heart, it’s about how people can be consumed by love, and also by sex, and it doesn’t shy away from either. Check out our list of sci-fi and fantasy novels with reincarnation in them. And then contemplate who you might be in your next life. View the full article

Image credit: NBC Chicago P.D. showrunner Gwen Sigan has confirmed that Officer Kevin Atwater and therapist Val Soto have officially gone their separate ways. The news comes amid growing speculation about the pair’s future following the previous season’s finale. Sigan also revealed how the split will shape Kevin’s character this season. Gwen Sigan says Kevin and Val ‘have broken up’ on Chicago P.D. Kevin Atwater’s love life has taken another complicated turn on Chicago P.D., with showrunner Gwen Sigan confirming that his relationship with Val Soto has officially come to an end. Kevin’s relationship with Val began as a casual romance, which gradually developed into something deeper. However, the Season 12 finale hinted at tension in their relationship when Kevin missed her calls during an Intelligence case, leaving fans uncertain about their future. In addition, actress Natalee Linez, who played Val, joined Dick Wolf’s FBI offshoot, CIA, a move that confirmed her exit from Chicago P.D. Sigan told Soaps.com, “They have broken up,” explaining that the breakup will open up a new chapter for Kevin. She said, “He’s in this very different spot of life. So we’ve got this great guest star that comes in and kind of shakes him up, and is very different from him, and [has a] very different perspective and [is] in a very different time in her life.” Sigan states that the two become connected through a particularly difficult case, which opens new opportunities for Kevin. It also allows Kevin to reflect on his own life in a different way. Previously, in a statement to Give Me My Remote, the showrunner also clarified that Atwater is entering a period of transition and reflection. “Atwater won’t be with Val this season, and due to that breakup, he’s in a really nice transitional phase,” Sigan said. She also explained how Kevin’s relationship with Val helped him with self-reflection. The post Chicago P.D. Romance readers, a few weeks ago, Netflix released a new poster for Bridgerton season 4, revealing Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha)’s masquerade gown. The social media post said, “A masquerade is like no other event. Prepare yourselves, for anything can happen,” and reminded fans that Bridgerton will be returning in 2026. So the hype around Bridgerton is still very real. But Netflix is already thinking ahead to what their next big romance series could be. Will it be Twisted Love? Twisted Love is a romance series that has been all anyone can talk about on BookTok. Ana Huang’s four-book series includes the novels Twisted Love, Twisted Games, Twisted Hate, and Twisted Lies. Like Bridgerton, the each book in the series follows a different romance story set in the same universe. Unlike Bridgerton, these books are contemporary and follow four best friends. If you’re a fan of grumpy/sunshine, brother’s best friend, or billionaire romance stories, you’re going to love these. These stories also feature morally gray characters and spicy romance scenes. Netflix’s logline promises, “A steamy new adult series that follows the lives of four best friends and their brooding love interests, riddled with dark secrets from their pasts, as they overcome the obstacles keeping them apart to fall in love.” In a recent interview with Swooon, author Ana Huang shared updates on the Netflix series adaptation. “We’re working on the script right now, and that’s about as much as I’m allowed to say,” she said. Huang says that there are “no updates beyond that” to share right now, but she added that “hopefully there’ll be more soon.” Admittedly, that’s not much to go on, but it does suggest that Huang is involved in the scriptwriting process, which should be exciting news to fans of the book. No cast for Twisted Love has been announced at this time, but that hasn’t stopped people from speculating. Here’s Swooon‘s pick for the young cast, and, of course, Ana Huang herself has also gotten in on the dreamcasting for the upcoming project. And with how much BookTok has loved this series, plenty of people on TikTok have also thrown their picks into the ring. Twisted Love is still very early in the production process, so no release date has been announced yet. For now, let’s just get excited about a new Bridgerton season in 2026, and keep sharing our casting predictions for Netflix’s next big romance series. Whenever it ends up being available to stream, we’re pretty sure it’s going to be a big deal. View the full article

It’s Banned Books Week in America. The annual event aims to highlight the realities of book censorship across the country while also encouraging book lovers to advocate for intellectual freedom. In recent years, the week has taken on even more weight as the number of book bans in public libraries and schools skyrockets; in recent years, it’s also felt more like marketing than a call for real, systemic change that supports our poorly funded, overly band-aided institutions of democracy. Despite this, it feels necessary to acknowledge what this week is about and where and how what’s championed one week per year should be applied every day of the year. Books by and about people of color; books by and about queer folks; and books about gender, sexuality, and puberty have been the top targets of censors since this unmitigated wave of book bans began in 2021. Anything under the umbrella of diversity, equity, and inclusion (“DEI”) is being pulled or labeled, removed or othered. We’ve highlighted this multiple times per week since the far-right accelerated its bigotry at the local school and library level in Literary Activism. Because there’s a dedicated space to cover book censorship, it’s not been covered here as much as it could be. YA books are among the biggest targets because it’s a category that has heard demands for better representation in its stories and authors. Though there is plenty of work to do, YA has responded to those demands and over the last decade, diversified in meaningful ways. There have always been YA books that tackle the topic of book bans, too. Among the early titles are Nat Hentoff’s The Day They Came to Arrest the Books, published in 1982 and Nancy Garden’s The Year They Banned the Books, published in 1999. We’ve seen the topic covered in books published in the last decade as well, including Banned Book Club by Kim Hyun Sook and Ryan Estrada, which dives into how authoritarian leadership in South Korea made books among their targets in amplifying their own power. We’re now seeing these types of books, both fiction and non, grow in their numbers in YA. It’s not because book banning is trendy. It’s not because book banning sells books. It’s not because it’s a topic that writers think is fun to explore. And to be clear, those were never the thrust behind such books before, either. But today’s rising tide of YA titles exploring book bans are doing so because book bans are touching every single reader, writer, and advocate of young adult literature. To not see books touch on book censorship would be to overlook one of the biggest challenges facing this entire category of books and an entire generation of young people. Samira Ahmed made waves with This Book Won’t Burn last year. This year, several more titles bringing to light the realities of today’s book bans are sitting alongside Ahmed’s. They include the nonfiction anthology Banned Together: Our Fight for Readers’ Rights edited by Ashley Hope Perez and featuring an array of voices, all of whom have seen their work banned (self included). Our this month is another work of nonfiction, Ban This!: How One School Fought Two Book Bans and Won (and How You Can Too) by a group of educators and students who successfully staved off two rounds of book bans at Central York High School. There are also several novels. Among them are Jasminne Mendez’s The Story of My Anger, as well as Frederick Joseph’s This Thing of Ours. Joseph and I dig deep into this book and the themes of censorship and student activism on the Hey YA podcast. One more book exploring literary censorship in its contemporary manifestation hit shelves last month, too. Abdi Nazemian’s Exquisite Things was written in part as a response to his experiences seeing his prior work censored and as a response to the ways in which queer history is silenced and erased during periods of political extremism. Today, Abdi shares his experiences under the thumb of book censors, as well as how he channeled his thoughts and feelings about it into his latest work of young adult fiction. ** In my widely banned novel Like a Love Story, I write, “Tell your story. Because if you don’t, it could be wiped out.” And also, “What we did. What we fought for. Our history. Who we are. They won’t teach it in schools. They don’t want us to have a history.” It’s a strange experience to write your queer immigrant coming-of-age story, to fill it passages about how the government of your adolescence didn’t want your stories told, and then to have the book banned. Like a Love Story tells the story of three high school seniors experiencing love, loss, and joy during the worst years of the AIDS crisis in New York City. It’s a novel about a time when there were no queer books in classrooms, when it took the President of the United States four years to merely speak the name of the virus that was devastating a community. When the book was published, I felt a surge of happiness because I now lived in a time and place where queer Iranian stories like mine were given a platform. When the book began being taught in high schools, I was shocked and overjoyed. After all, this is a book where a character explicitly states that queer history will never be taught. Talking to students studying queer history through my novel was and continues to be one of the most moving honors of my life. But those classroom visits have greatly decreased. That’s because the book is now banned statewide in Utah public schools, as well as in districts across Florida, Texas, and Virginia. Nationwide, this culture of fear has led to a decrease in queer books being stocked and in marginalized authors being invited to schools. I know fear well. I grew up with it by my side. Today, I feel personal heartbreak that young people are facing the same fear and shame I did when I was young. Once again, young queers are being told to remain invisible. Which is exactly when we all need to get louder and prouder than ever. Book bans are never an isolated incident. Consider that LGBTQ content is being scrubbed from federal health websites, the NIH’s HIV Language Guide has disappeared, the State Department website has changed LGBTQI+ to LGB. This is all a coordinated effort we’ve encountered before and it’s clear a book like mine is being banned for fear that teens who read it will ask questions about similar moments in queer history and will learn to fight back from the ACT UP activists the book honors. But we must also remember that fighting back doesn’t mean betraying our values. When the bans began to impact me personally, I responded to online attacks in a futile attempt to defend myself and I felt myself revert back to the scared, angry teen I once was. In time, I realized that the new challenge in front of me is holding onto my own values of empathy and forgiveness for all, and dealing with struggle in the best way I know how: by alchemizing it into art. Which is why I’ve chosen to weave a response to book banning into my next novel Exquisite Things, the story of two eternal seventeen-year olds searching for a time and place where their love isn’t a crime. Exquisite Things’ protagonists are made immortal through the burning of Oscar Wilde’s original manuscript for The Picture of Dorian Gray. This is a commentary on how any attempt to destroy our stories will only make us stronger in the end. The Picture of Dorian Gray was once censored and banned. Now it is canon. Today’s long list of banned books might not all become canon, but I know that the message at their core will outlast any effort to make them invisible. Love and community will always outlast hate and division. In Exquisite Things, I write, “We must love the life we’re given. It’s our most important job. And when our time is up, we must hand the world over to a new generation. We must give them our passions, our lessons, our art, our loves, our losses. We must give them our souls and hope they can find the same happiness we once did. Hope they’re as lucky as we once were.” This is the guiding principle of my novels: that in sharing histories that challenge dominant narratives, I might help readers love the life they’re given and keep passing that love on through art, communication, and human relationships grounded in empathy rather than fear. His novel The Walk-In Closet won the Lambda Literary Award for LGBT Debut Fiction. His screenwriting credits include the films The Artist’s Wife, The Quiet, and numerous television series. Many people praised Lithgow’s casting and look, calling him “great.” One user wrote on X, “He looks good but tbh I don’t have any concerns regarding Dumbledore anyway. John Lithgow is a fine actor and will do justice to the character for sure.” Another commented, “I love him! His outfit has a Hogwarts Legacy vibe. Maybe a bit too long beard but that’s a detail. (Why is he at the beach though??).” A third user also stated, “LOVE IT JOHN LITHGOW IS SUCH AN EXCELLENT ACTOR RIGHT UP THERE WITH RICHARD HARRIS AND MICHAEL GAMBON. CANT WAIT.” However, not everyone was happy.
